i'm looking at coins of Mariniana(Valerians wife) and i noticed in the terms one company in Germany is charging flat 20% for delivery outside EU (more if you live in the EU)..anybody else seen this?.....
well, i went bad and lQQked again...no, it says for 'delivery'..above and beyond the buyers premium..
If someone tells us which auction house, or posts a link or a screenshot, we can all see for ourselves who's right -- namely, is the total of buyer's fee plus shipping really 40%? Without that, this is rather pointless.

For US buyers (i.e. delivery outside of EU): 20% BP +2.5% online bidding fee + EUR 25 minimum shipping fee + EUR 10 "bank expenses" fee for overseas payments (not sure what payment types are accepted, and if any exclude this fee)
or deliveries within the EU: a premium of 23%. This amount includes differential taxation. Items in the list printed in the catalogue are subject to VAT at the statutory rate. These lots are indicated online. for deliveries outside the EU: a premium of 20%.
I have spent over 45 gran at these auction houses . The BP and shipping OWELL not any more. This stopped. last year. DL = no BP or shipping. direct buy from dealers is my best bet.
Why go to the EU when you can stay right at home and get ripped off? Buy away, pay away, stay away, that's the way, our way or the highway! Made you smile huh.
The buyers premium is 23% within the EU as VAT is included, 20% outside as that's VAT-free. Delivery charges increase with the hammer price, but are not 20% of the hammer price at all, unless you spend very little. This is the case for any postage - I see that a 100g packet will cost me €3.80 to post within Ireland, so that's 20% if the value inside is €19, or 100% if what's inside is worth €3.80. Anyway, Hirsch quote €15 for delivery in Germany up to €3,000, so if you spend €3,000 hammer, the delivery cost is 0.5%, obviously higher if you spend less. For higher hammer prices, the percentage is lower - €20 up to €10000 and €45 above, so you would be at 0.2% at €10,000 and just less than 0.45% at €10001, but 0.045% @ €100,000. Outside of Germany, they quote a minimum of €25 - if you spend €125 hammer, that is 20%, but 0.83% if you spend €3,000 (assuming the same delivery charges vs hammer cutoffs as for within Germany). Bank charges are a rip-off from the bank - within Europe, we would at least avoid that! ATB, Aidan.
I won a large, heavy book in the recent January 28 Hirsch Auction. They charged a fixed 25 Euro fee for shipping to California which is similar to recent shipping costs I've paid for other books from Germany. I paid by PayPal so they dropped the 10 Euro bank charge. They were very accommodating.
That's why I never make either international or domestic wire transfer payments through my bank anymore: they charge at least $40 per transfer, regardless of the amount transferred. Instead, I use wise.com (formerly transferwise).
