I can't tell what's going on with this quarter so thought I'd seek opinions. I see most of these type posts end up being environmental damage and probably this will be too, but let's see. Maybe it's just a polished quarter as it's quite smooth and reflective in hand, but the coloring is throwing me off. There's a hint of nickel coloring on the obverse & reverse but overall the coin is clearly more copper in appearance. The edge reeding is almost entirely copper except for a sliver of nickel coloring, visible when using a loupe, on the obverse edge side. Weight checks out at 5.6g. Any thoughts?
Can't tell if that is a guess or statement. I have other coins that have been clearly buried. They are usually dull in appearance and not smooth/clean to the touch... that is not this coin. If it was buried, someone would have had to clean it to its current state. Maybe....just trying to come up ideas why it is the way it is...
Your Cupro-Nickel nickel clad quarter has suffered Environmental Damage. There are so many ways it can appear. Rough and smooth. It's not a mint error of any kind.
If the photo is true in color, it is interesting that it has a "copper look" in some areas, but I see nothing else to indicate it is anything other than a circulated, normal, quarter.
