How about that, I just received this email from the US Mint, I really don't care as I'm cutting way back on my purchases from them.
    Enroll Today –
    While Inventory Remains
Since the design change last year, enrollments for American Eagle products have more than doubled. As a result, 100% of available units of the 2022 American Eagle Silver One Ounce Proof Coin (S) and the 2022 American Eagle Silver One Ounce Uncirculated Coin (W) have been reserved through enrollments. If you would like to be notified if either of these coins become available again, please sign up for a “Remind Me” alert.

I terminated all my enrollments at the end of the year. I have been a customer of the US Mint since 1959. I have 2 more Great Grandchildren due this year (pushes the total to 23). I think I will come up with something else for them, something not from the US Mint or the USPS.

I just checked my email and got the same one as @dwhiz . Seems like I'm gonna be SOL buying directly from the mint to complete my son's birth year collection. Not looking forward to paying scalper's prices.

I may settle for an ASE bullion grade for the kids.

I got the 2022 bullion ASE on the way. But the other 3 have all the fun stuff so I would feel bad not doing it for #4.

All of mine have at least a bullion and a mint set. The bullion should simple and shoppable. The mint sets I may have to get from the mint. But they are off-the-shelf items usually. With the grandkids I got a mint set every year. I stopped that when they started producing children of their own. I was buying 20 sets a year.

I bought my 2022 Silver Eagle from my local dealer. That way I'm supporting a local business.

    Doesn’t bother me at all.
I only get the bullion coins anyway.

Quite a few of the 2021 examples have come back down close to issue price. With high mintages, I'd bet the 2022 examples will see a temporary spike on eBay but then fall back to around issue price (or even lower). So if you give it some time, I'd bet you can buy one at a reasonable price later in the year (I don't think your son will mind if you take your time to make the purchase :)).

I will say it was fun last year collecting all that crap.
I made a nice set for the fun of it.

Blah. The proof and uncirculated Silver eagles while silver, and I suppose popular, rarely make back their purchase price and doubtful they make back the purchase price now with the big price increases of the past year.

I get it why people would all race to enroll for them, but I also been buying proof silver eagles for a long time and only ever really get ahead on them when silver runs up in price.

If you collect silver eagles that's great, I can take them or leave them and I'm not a completist when it comes to them. I'll continue picking up the lower mintage or special finish ones that I like that aren't on enrollments. Besides I'm sure most of that enrollment is filled up with the resellers anyways looking to grade and flip with a markup we all know who they are, if I won't pay at issued price, I'm not gonna be buying from them either for even more money.
And yeah, if the mint wants to be dumb and make hundreds of thousands of them, BUT not enough to meet even the enrollment demand, that's their prerogative. But I personally won't be the sucker falling for the "get it while you can! Join the club!" Marketing ploy. They will still be everywhere for sale, the majority won't make it into collector hands directly and will be sold on the secondary market if people will pay the price.

It's a dumb game and I'm not playing it.

Amen John. I finished my ASE trip with the end of the original design. There are too many configurations and they cost too much. I consider them to be an overpriced novelty and, in some cases, a commemorative. A person has to be crazy to think they can make money on US Mint products. There are a few that will in the immediate market, but in most cases the value goes down as soon as something new comes out. If you want for example a 2022 proof or mint set just wait a couple of years and buy it on the aftermarket for less than the mint sold it for.

I like the Silver Eagles because the obverse is one of my favorite designs and I also like the size and heft of them.

There have been some articles asking if Proof Sets are coming back (like in GREYSHEET) and quite frankly even the supporters didn't seem to be making a strong argument.

It's like making a case for a return to Word Processors over PC's.:D

Given the large number of negative comments, one would think the coins are easy to get when they first come out from the mint. It makes it more difficult to figure out why all three enrollments for 2022 are now in a "Remind Me" state. Well that can be explained with purchaser greed. In any case, I still lack all of the 1986-2008 issues, and will avoid the reverse proof and privy mark issues of later years. The coins are large at 40.6mm, have a beautiful design and sparkle as only silver can. There are a lot of coins, considering I have 47 different coins (bullion, burnished and proof) and still have 23 years to start and a few post 2008 issues to complete. I enjoy it, and in the end that is what matters.

The US Mint knows a public sucker and profit play when it sees it. Thank GOD I don't collect/stack these anymore. I DID use to stack these in my early days w/Monster Boxes and payday-silver purchases getting me started and for THAT I'm eternally grateful as part of the learning curve in precious metals market and numismatics. In the end every oz ASE I accumulated eventually was upgraded to gold.

The Type Set from dwhiz IS really nice, fun and love the presentation.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry seems to gravitate towards ASE which, them being modern and me being a Contrarian, tells me to RUN AWAY! The recent increased silver premium scheme led me to sell 8 years accumulation of 700+ oz silver various bullion coin/bars in 3/21...ALL which went into even more gold, and ended my silver purchases with the exception of classic silver series keys and keeping my (childhood) modern series proof date sets complete. You know...the FUN stuff not requiring a lot of analysis headaches ;)

I cut out nearly all my enrollments - except the ASE proof. My late father used to get all the basic sets and ASE's from the mint each year - i did for a while as well after his death. I now only have ASE proof enrollment out of sentimental sake.
