Roman Republican bronzes, especially the struck ones, can be very boring. Janus with prow reverse as, blah blah. This is slightly more interesting, I hope - a snake coiled round the top of an altar set in the middle of the Janus head.

    Moneyer: L.Rubrius Dossenus
Obv.: Laureate head of Janus with garlanded altar with snake coiled round top set in centre
Rev.: L RVBRI / DOSSEN - Prow right; before, mark of value
    Mint: Rome (87 BC)
    Wt./Size/Axis: 11.81g / 26mm / 0h

This is a rare enough coin and interestingly Kuenker have put forward the theory that the head on the obverse is that of Cassius - https://www.kuenker.de/en/information/presseinformationen/aktuelle-mitteilungen/86 - possibly in an effort to boost interest in their sale, of course!

I have a poor fourrée example of the "other Brutus" coin of the same year. I saw a lovely solid silver example in another thread earlier - http://www.tantaluscoins.com/coins/121828.php

Anyway, next subject - a coin depicting the bust of uncertain/disputed person.
