Hi all, Just my curiosity sparking again, how many of you are in a coin club? I my self am a member of the ANA and our local club the next town over the Front Range Coin Club. What do you do in your clubs? is it large or small? lets see what everyone else clubs are like -Russ
I am a member of two local coin clubs. There is usually a turnout of 25-40 people for each at any given meeting. They both meet monthly and have a similar itinerary: club business, show and tell, guest speaker, and member auctions followed by a raffle. I am quite active in both clubs and have never gotten bored. Bought, sold, and won many coins, have heard some great talks, and have given some talks on my own areas of interest.
We get 30 usually at out meetings. It is a very enthusiastic club, and we get plenty of kids. That's awesome to see the youth getting into the hobby, and we place strong emphasis on this.
I belong to the ANA and the local coin club. I was awarded "Life Membership" in the local club this past year in recognition of the years I served as Club President. The local club has moved to a new facility this past year. At first it was way way bigger and everyone could really spread out. Our club dealers could easily have a table for each to show their wares. At the last meeting is was getting too crowded to have this going on any more. Probably in a few months folks will get requested to stay to half a table for sales. This is great growth. The club auction is always fun and just loaded with nice stuff. Like everywhere some overpriced, overgraded, over-looked. Each member lot can have eight distinct items offered. The total number of member lots is set at 40 max. First come - first served. Some members do presentations by creating a writeup and then passing it out at the meeting. This seems to work very well for us.
I was going to visit the local club for the first time this past Tuesday. But Mother Nature said, "No you won't" and dumped 28" of snow in the area. So I have no idea what it's like. I'll try again next month.
I think I m currently a member of some 13 clubs. Five local clubs, three state organizations, one regional, four national. Plus three online forums and five email lists.
Iam in a coin club, Well i think Iam, Actually dont really collect coins really Just paper, But since there,s no paper clubs!! What to do??
Reading your responses brings back great memories for me. When I was starting up back in the 60's I was a member of 2 local clubs, both very active. In fact one hosted the CNA (Canadian Numismatic Assoc} convention one year. The other club was here in Vermont. At that time Commemorative Medals were the thing and our club issued one for the 175th Anniversay of our city, Newport. We sold the better part of 2000 of them. The Bourse and auctions were loads of fun and information. Now I do not think there is a local club within 100 miles of me and it is quite lonely.
I wish I was. If there was a club that met within an hour of where I live I would join. But theres not.
I'm joining a coin club next week. They were established in 1960 and currently have over 250 members. They have 2 meeting per month. According to the President, people set up tables about an hour and a half before each meeting and buy & sell coins. Every meeting offers the chance to win free door prizes in addition to a 50 cent a ticket coin raffle that makes for some interesting additions to participants collections. A cash jackpot drawing is also held at every meeting. They also conduct a coin auction where coin members may put up their own coins for auction to the membership, with minimum bids specified for each lot. There is no cost to members to include their coins in an auction and all proceeds are theirs to keep. He also mentioned that every year they go to Orlando for some coin show or convention. I thought he said that the transportation was free of charge if you are a member. I cant wait to hit my first meeting.
Belong to a club I belong to my local coin club and it has really been a great experience. We usually have an educational program and always have raffles and auctions. We meet monthly for the club and just started to meet socially for drinks and dinner at a local restaurant. I've certainly learned alot from the guys who belong and its fun comparing collections.
You're doing just fine. In that coin club there are at least three other collectors of paper and possibly as many as four that collect MPC's. (there were five but one sold his collection at auction about a year ago.)
