no never said, that, i did say, however: "if you do not like the coins i post, or my grammar, then block me, " that was his choice not mine, tired of bickering, all my coins are worth face value or less, if i pay 2.00 for a struck through ike i overpaid, yatta yatta, yet every day i see errors like mine hammering out at way more than i paid, hmmmm, like i said, too much nit picking, i have nothing but praise when i comment, or i do not..simple as that, people asked me what i paid, i told em, so, yeh, not worth the added high blood pressure, my time is limited as it is no need to be miserable, so no more coin posts..and after today, no more replies either, as of noon today
and paddy's comment is the icing on the cake, "my bs"??? really?? it is others that choose to argue and belittle what i post or my opinion, like my opinion means nothing because they are all experts for 600 years in the field, sorry, my coin delaing knowledge only goes back 47 years, i am still a novice, i will leave the posting to all the so called experts, bye
@paddyman98 The truth was needed, and what was said, definitely wasn't it. I am not gonna let someone blatantly lie about a member, only to make himself look better.
Here is exactly what you just said. "nope, he only wants me to post 10,000 ++ and up coins, otherwise it is beneath everyone to view my disgusting drivel of a collection, lol" Spending 2/5/10/20 dollars + shipping and handling doesn't make you a smart buyer. You joined a community that prides itself on the education and knowledge it gives to the newbie. Getting responses on your threads means that folks care about the money you are spending on coins that are drivel, they are common everyday coins, worth mostly face value, not all but the prices you pay are way overboard for the given coin in most cases. To top it off, when you are being helped and given advice, you cut them short and lose your audience. You say oh well my heirs can just spend them for face value for all I care. OK? Why not give them something of value? Look I don't care if you spend your money frivolously, I could care less. I don't want you to leave the forum, I think you are a nice guy, I am sure that most folks around here would say the same thing. You are a 2-year collector of errors and variety's, use some humility and learn what errors are valuable, which aren't, and those that can be found in everyday commerce for nothing. Let us help you buy worthy coins. You may think that everyone that responds is criticizing you, that is the farthest from the truth. Most here want you to be an educated buyer, it is more than hard to do that when you step on their 30,40, 50 years of educated experience. Good luck John on whatever you choose to do. No one is trying to burst your bubble for anything other than an education. Phil
On topic: it is a pretty unique coin so pricing it is difficult. Experience over time might be the only way to gain an appropriate perspective on that. It’s worth what you are willing to pay for it but I may be worth more or less to another collector. Off topic: since joining CT, I see the usual suspects. New collectors with uncurbed enthusiasm. General collectors with reserved judgment. Other collectors with warm and dry dispositions. Eventually emotions collide and what might have been an intelligent conversation and worthy exploration devolves into a mess. It’s sad to see. In my opinion if parties can’t agree to disagree politely or one party is more antagonistic to another, using features like Paddyman executed is a fine solution. By removing one party from the contentious atmosphere, things improve. However, efforts to subvert that is akin to poking a sleeping bear. Bad all around. Personally I try to get along with all members of the community. I’m not immune from expressing myself on rare occasion but I’m generally good at dialing it back quickly. There may be folks you wouldn’t have a beer with but it doesn’t eliminate the possibility that they may have points worthy of your consideration. And listening to what they say just might make you grow within this hobby and costs you nothing. A simple “Like” of a comment without commenting may send a better signal that you are listening and appreciate the comment if not the person. Manage the emotions.
Arrogance is self-imposed, opinion can be accepted or denied, expert is knowledge of a certain subject, professional = acceptance. It's up to me to decide which you deserve. Magic verse: opinions are like AH everybody has one. I respect you! Be nice.
Gee, I only have a 1943-S cent on Mercury dime planchet. Don't have a 1943 Philadelphia. Can't help you. Do you older members remember H.N. Heller?
I've not heard of H.N. Heller since I started collecting coins and errors around 1960, but I've found that numerous collectors had Capitol Plastics make up custom holders for their error coins, and this appears to be one of them. Also, if I can say it, Heritage will auction off 2 or 3 1943 Cents on Silver Dimes, (and one or two 1943-S's) at their Central States Auction in April.
My problem with the OP is that he is NOT A NUMISMATIST. He is a businessman out to make money, and there is nothing wrong with that. I view CT as members that are numismatist at some level, here to gain knowledge about the hobby and add to their collection, not buy, buy, buy, and then sell, sell, sell. I support coin collectors and try to help newbies, as I had this one, in the beginning, but my time and patience has limits, so I no longer respond on his posts. If he holds to his statement: "not worth the added high blood pressure, my time is limited as it is no need to be miserable, so no more coin posts..and after today, no more replies either, as of noon today" I shall not mourn.
It’s the right tact @Mountain Man. Like I said, here and in the past, enthusiasm (especially blind enthusiasm) can ratchet up the emotions unexpectedly and in unexpected ways. To your point, the commingling of business and the hobby can make for interesting dialogue (I’m being generous here as you know). But in fairness it can be done. We see it with a few senior members here that are quite effective, probably because they are hobbyists first as well as businessmen. But we have a share of members that look at coins as a means to an end; some financial gain. Which is fine, but can become tedious if the track is just to run things past members to get a ‘price’ for this-and-that. Eventually folks grow bored of playing the game. Best to exit discussions like that before they sour. I’m not always successful but consider myself a work in progress. That said, there may be no faster way to get a sense of ‘price’ or value than to ask very experienced members what they think. Paddyman, Jim and Fred have a lot to offer here. The smart thing is not to get into thoughtless debate on matters. Even our experts can be wrong, but the aim of further debate should not be to embarrass the other. Some like to be competitively combative. Those are the folks that eventually get ignored. Sorry for the long post. The side topic is one of interest for me from a clinical perspective.
How can that be. He’s my (our) NYC tour guide. He’s taken many CT member along with me throughout New York You just haven’t made your connection yet
