She's Purrdy!! I can't even begin to grade this lovely Coin. Can you darken the Pic please. More Natural tone. Thanks.
Looks at least high AU in terms of detail; I'd say AU55-58, though there's a possibility it just makes it over the Mint State threshold (MS62-63-ish). It's hard to judge, from those photos. I'd go with the AU58 estimate to be conservative. Because of the glare in the photos, it's also difficult for me to determine whether or not this coin was lightly polished (i.e., an ex-jewelry piece), but I think it looks OK from what I can see. Nice coin, regardless of the technicalities. Edit- my eyes went straight for the pics and overlooked your top line where you yourself guessed AU58. So we're apparently in agreement there.
It's hard to grade this from these photos, but I believe that it has been polished. If you own it that's okay. If you are thinking about buying it, I would pass unless it's near melt. The key is the recognize mint luster. It's like the "cartwheel" you see when you swirl a Morgan Dollar under the light. If the luster is broken or coin only shines, it's a problem. Here is a photo that shows mint luster. This coin is graded PCGS MS-62, CAC.
Looks like it rolled around someone's pocket or purse also. Nice coin, cleaned, AU in my opinion. In your favor I hope I'm wrong. Thanks for sharing and good luck.
I say yes if I had in hand to look over....a piece like this I advoid unless I can obtain it at spot. From the image its hard to make a honest call...but if the image represents what I see ...pass.
Look at * 11 as well a few others...looks like medal moved The S shows signs of dirt oil in the loops yet other devices are clean
I don't even try to grade gold coins, but other than lots of bag marks, and that strange halo around the star at 3 O'clock, it looks good to me as uncirculated.
@Steve theButcher Gold is difficult to photograph properly; the lighting in these photos is harsh, and the sharpness is a little soft, so there is some guesswork on my part in thinking that it would grade AU55/58. IMO the coin has not been intentionally polished; I don't see any hairlines, and there is enough roughness in the fields that any abrasive polishing would have uniformly smoothed them.
I agree with Sal. The photos are a bit too bright. That said, it looks to be close to MS but a bit baggy to make brilliant. Still a coin I wouldn't mind owning.
Unless the glare is obscuring it there's no wear on that I'm seeing. It's pretty beat up, though. MS62 on the generous side, at least on those photos.
