Anyone ready to move on to the next color?? How about the Brown Seals? This can be Large Size and Large/Small Size Nationals.... Since I lead off with the Red Seals... someone else go with thes Brown Seals. RickieB
Most are not very high quality, but nonetheless, I present some of my Federal Reserve Bank Notes and National Notes.
Clay and North49 guy... very nice notes guy's..humm where did I see that $100 New York Brown Seal before?? :thumb: I have to rescan my few notes but will post as soon as I get it done.. Keep em coming guy's.. RickieB
Here are my meager Brown Seals.. looks like I need to get on the stick..these are just so hard to find and so so expensive. RickieB
Posted these once before not so long ago in another thread on Hawaii notes. My only Brown Seals currently. No better pics available at this time. These guys are packed away in the SDB so they'll have to do, and no reverse shots unfortunately.
RickieB & Clay: Why do some of those Nationals have blacked out areas on the face, lower edge where it has a title like, Cashier or President? Where those notes canceled at some point?
Yeah, I noticed the Governor title too but wasn't sure what was going on. I understand re-purposing the plates now. The black out box seems a little off on some, not fully covering the blocked out bits. Is it known how this was done? Blackened boxes engraved directly to the existing plates or put through after printing the notes originally?
If I'm not mistaken they did that because the bills were for national currency but when they declared they were going to stop national bank notes and only do federal, they decided to print the federal bank notes on top of the already produced notes for the nationals (if I'm making any sence). You can see on the blanked out ones it says on the top National Currency but in the text it will say a Federal Reserve Bank of _____ rather than the older 'national bank of____' Hope that clears it up and my info is correct!
North49guy.. I just looked that up and you are correct, thank you for the post. Very well done! RickieB
North49guy & RickieB: These are indeed some interesting notes with a pivotal history all their own if considered for just these alterations and adjustments. Thanks for the info. :thumb:
