This is a private issue, not an actual coin. As such, it is not widely collected and likely worth the value of an ounce of gold (currently about $1,111).
Its worth what ever the gold buy per oz is.and I would try and find out more about it.I have a few gold coin that were minted in very low #by the US mint in the early 80's before the mint offer 1oz coins to the public. that maybe were an extra value maybe.
I have 1982 1/2oz gold Metallic Art of Mark Twain ,I wish had got the complete set. all are low mintage, there about 10 different coin of famous people
Nice to see the pic Silva...private issue by Johnson and Mathey and not a Royal Canadian Mint issue,.... it will always be worth the spot price of an ounce of gold..nice investment.
Nice look coin I love gold coins, Canada turns out some nice pieces. Four times up on your money is not bad. Think about 50K invested in all the great gold coins of 2008 from the U.S. Mint. You could sell that and start with something that has some legs for the future. Pep
I agree with the previous postings, but it is listed (I believe) in Krause's Unusual World Coins (Companion Volume to Standard Catalog of World Coins - 5th Edition) under "Canada". I don't have my copy at work. I know when they come up on ebay periodically, they always sell at a premium (especially the silver 1 oz versions)., although I'm not sure why. I agree that they are nice looking "coins".
It is in Krause's Unusual World Coins (Companion Volume to Standard Catalog of World Coins - 5th Edition) and is X#MB56 with a mintage of 10,000 under the Canada LTEE Series (Johnson Matthey & Mallory). The listed value is $750.00, but obviously this was a 2007 value before the spike in the price of gold price the last year or so.
