    Howdy,
    I tried to take pics from all four light sources hoping it would pick up something but my eyes are not that good. Coin has seen a good amount of circulation and strike itself shows die deterioration but would those combined cause the initials to dissapear? Thanks 20220125_185857.jpg 20220125_190031.jpg Image_2022-01-25 17_43_08_617.jpg Image_2022-01-25 18_56_15_832.jpg Image_2022-01-25 18_56_47_072.jpg Image_2022-01-25 18_57_15_971.jpg

    The FG can also be missing due to over polishing of the die. Can be seen with the roof supports of the memorial partly or completely (floating roof) missing also, as your coin also shows.

    No. It's what @expat said.
    Overpolished Die. Common issue on early 1970's Cents. Not everything is a grease filled die.

    Didn't even think about looking at the roof my mistake,FG is one of the most common spots for a gfd.The roof is a clear giveaway as expat stated for a op die.

    I think that's missing just the G, as I think I see part of the F. So it's only worth half as much.

    Over polished die, but what the heck, a bunch of members beat me to it. I guess this is why I never get the worm. LOL

    Yes. No matter how faint, if it is still visible it cannot be considered as a missing FG

    He was talking about the white arrows.
    @Bargainbidder no those aren't initials.

    No...get real! As a well-known member, one would think that the FG is not located within that area of your white arrows. They are ONLY located on the right-hand side close to the base of the LM. And as you can see, there is a hint of an FG that is still there. Thus...it's there! HELLO!

    I understand what you are saying @PassthePuck My reply was only meant to point out that the initials that appear where die was punched have the same anomaly that give the appearance to the area white arrows are pointing at. Not trying to argue, just pointing out that whether worn die, grease or foreign material could have given this affect. My apologies if I was misunderstood.
