Does anyone ever worry that somebody at the Mint might sell a list of all their buyers to someone on the outside, supposedly for advertising purposes, who then has a huge list of addresses of people who might have expensive coins in their homes ?

Me neither, but the thought has crossed my mind, given the large number of reported incidents where an employee (not of the Mint) made a few thousand bucks selling lists. This includes AOL, who as a company allegedly sold lists of subscribers' phone numbers, many of which were unlisted.

The Mint’s list might not be the ultimate; there was some deal about a national coin organization publishing the names and addresses of members without their consent.

The Mint's list would be mainly of grandmothers who buy proof sets for their grandchildren and of coin collectors that have generic type items. Most collectors that purchase from the mint don't have great/expensive collections.

Now, getting the list from a few of the major auction houses would be better...

However, you should use a PO Box for coins. That way no one knows your home address.

The only problem with the PO box idea is that the mint sometimes uses FedEx to ship coins, not often but they won't deliver to PO boxes as far as I know..or is that UPS?

Neither FedEx or UPS will deliver to PO Boxes. I've never had a problem with the mint shipping to my POB. They can like to use FedEx all they want, but if I only give them my POB they will ship it USPS.

Or have FedEx deliver to your work.

Yeah he's been known to have a good idea once or twice  And from what I hear - he even owns a nice coin or two. 'Course they got dip residue on 'em :D

But I gotta tell ya - I sure am glad he doesn't know me - I also hear he can be a real grouch  :p
