Hi everyone, about a week ago I bought a lot of Greek Bronze coins from London Ancient Coins on Vcoins for only £3 each. Now the coins have arrived and I thought I would share some photos of them. They actually really surprised me and were a lot better than the picture suggested with a variety of reverses (it seems the one image of the lot only showed the least interesting sides). I've already identified a few (mainly the nicer ones), but I'm going to work on identifying most of them this evening, so if any of you know what some coins might be, especially the more worn ones, then let me know in this thread! I'd greatly appreciate it. I also might do a little writeup on this lot on my website later. The pics of them in groups don't do the coins justice, so I've included one or two individual pictures of coins I really like from the lot. My first amphora on a coin, there were a few amphoras in this lot but this is probably the nicest: My favourite coin overall from the lot: Post any lots of greek coins you've bought, or coins you've been pleasantly surprised by when you received them!
This group lot of ancient coins I won from an eBay auction! The seller's pics didn't show much details and no reverse side! but I took a gamble and bid at the last seconds. Once I received them I was glad I decided to bid. If I averaged the prices, each coin would be worth around 12 USD, while the sestertius and the Alexander drachm alone would be worth around 100 dollars each, and add in 20 buck each for those billon Alexandrian tetradrachms.
When coins were cheaper in the 90s, I bought a bunch of 2nd (and some 1st) century Asses/Dupondii and As-sized provincials, for $1.50 each. The conditions ranged from about VG-F, which wasn't bad at all.
Also, can anyone maybe help me identify this one from the lot? I’ve tried to identify it, but can’t find it anywhere. It seems quite unusual maybe. And sorry, the pics aren’t that great.
Actually I’ve managed to have a guess about it, but not sure if I’m right. Still can’t find any other examples. Antiochos IV AE 11 1.35g Rev: EπI ANTIOXOΣ Obv. Front facing Apollo (or Helios?)
