I always find dmpl fascinating, but came across this raw example and the hazy/grainy look on the observe has me wondering if this is truly a dmpl? Can more experienced members chime in? https://www.ebay.com/itm/125102517774?hash=item1d20b0ee0e:g:gEAAAOSwEqlh41eC
I don't think so. The fields are rather cloudy, and the surfaces are really chopped up, especially on the obverse. It's one of those coins with some P-L that look the worse because of excessive bag marks.
That could be too. The photos a out of focus when you put the strong glass on it. It's also got a couple of those little grey pitted areas on the reverse, which can form when the "Chinese P-L surface" is breaking down. It remember a counterfeit ASE that was in a genuine box with papers that was no good. It had spots on it similar to that.
Looks legit as a coin/Morgan $, but potential "details" and not DMPL to me. I mean, how would/could anyone possibly measure/assess the "30-inch jaw-dropping mirrors and BU luster" given the marks/haze, et al...? But seller qualifies it with "my opinion." That said, maybe if it stays below $300 in a few more hrs it might be worth a bid to someone looking for such an example of an 1878-CC as is...maybe low MS/MS details. My opinion.
