Interesting reading but it’s all fairly new and constricts my Red Book. No big deal to me because I’m done with the Kennedy’s as they are just to hard to find in my area.
Nice JFK collection!!! I completed my small cents collection last year, Lincolns and Indian Heads and the Flying Eagles. On most of the Indian Heads, I can read "LIBERTY"on headband. Now, I'm (occasionally only) upgrading on some, particularly Lincolns.
Wow, that took some patience CN, congratulations, what's on the table now? Plugged holes also include the 1866 Flying Eagle and the 1916-D Liberty Head Dime, among others. Great post, thanks.
I have a full set of Mercury Dimes but I need the 1916-D for a second set so that’s on the list. I need 2 Roosevelt Dimes for my second set so that’s on the list as well. Both of those second sets were put together last month from junk silver I had. Still have lots more to go through. I also did the same with Walking Liberty and Franklin Halves so not many needed there either. Only need less than 5 Lincoln’s and a 1913-S Nickel but the tough one is the Barber Dimes. I need a number of them but less than half so time to get that one together.
I think I read somewhere that the Mint stopped producing Kennedy Halves for circulation because, well, they weren't circulating. Historically it seems (IMHO) that halves and silver or clad dollars do not circulate well because they haven't been accepted as pocket change for payment of items. The SBA's were too much like a quarter and were confusing to many as well. The Sacagawea/Native American and Presidential dollars were drastically cut mintage wise, I guess because they weren't circulating at all, and there weren't enough collectors to buy up the huge surplus. The Mint, I feel, made a good decision to change the reverse of the Sacagawea/Native American coins, keeping the collectors happy. I don't know about the Innovation dollars, but I have no interest in collecting them. By the way, nice collection of Kennedy's!
Nice Set of JFK's. I likewise just completed my set and I searched the web for an inexpensive 70 mint set, just to have all the holes filled. I am now working on a Proof Set and so far my billfold does not like me. Semper Fi
Nor do I. I actually have one that I purchased from a person that was selling his collection and he had the set in 2x2 flips. (I still purchase any I run across whether they are in flips or in the mint set). As I said, I do not like empty slots. Semper Fi
