Hi everyone I have been a coin collector since I was little, but in 2019 I decided to start coin roll hunting, and I went the bank at my grocery store, which I do not have an account with, and asked for $25 in pennies I get home, start looking through the pennies and I found this penny.[IMG]

When I first saw it I said edited and my Dad said I thought I raised a girl to be a lady, I said yes but once I show you what I just found you might think the same, then I showed him the coin and he said wow that's older then the Civil War and I said I know, it was found in this condition, sadly no date, certain ways I move it does see a light 185 but was hoping for a 1856 but I know it is probably not an 1856. But still happy with the find even in the condition.

Judging by the reverse it could be either an 1857 or 1858.The reverse of 1857, there are leaves that almost touch both the c and t in cent. The reverse of 1857 was used for a while in 1858 and appears on both the LL and Small letter varieties. So sorry that was not much help, but from what I can barely make of the date it looks like an 1858. Others with better vision will correct me if I am wrong.

I can see 1857 as the date. It would be a perfect F01 grade for a low ball set.

There must be a rash of these old pennies going around. I recently posted this in the Reject Slot finds. It was found this past Saturday. Not a Flying Eagle, but a Canadian 1859 Cent.

I found an 1858 Flying Eagle in a reject bin at Wally-World last year in just a little better shape than yours. Nice find, keep searching and posting. Thank you!

Someone must be releasing them into the wild just to bring a thrill to the finders.

I've found a few IHC's but never a Flying Eagle. Very nice find even if its not dated. Thats a memory you'll keep. Congrats.

Definitely not a '57...dunno for sure but looks more a '56 than a '58, remote as that would be.
