Here is a pic of my old commems, and a couple old half dollars. I would like to see others commem coins.
Nice collection. that must have taken some time (and deep pockets) to put together. how long did it take you to assemble it?
This is about it for me.I have lots of the new ones but no other older.I also have this commemorative medal from the centennial 1876 and have read that the liberty on the obverse is a St. Gaudens design but there are no engravers initials so it might just be a representation of one of his designs..I'm not sure.
commems I hate to admit it, but the commems were my grandfathers, I value them very much and will probably never part with them.
I love these old commems! Some of the designs (Pligrim, Oregon, Pan Pac) are among the best ever issued on a U.S. Coin. Many old commems are appealing to me just to show how a feeble excuse for a commemorative event or non-event can pass congress for authorization (Cincinatti, Washington/Carver, and many others. If most of these were not so expensive now, they would be my specialty. I have been enjoying my growing collections of circulated early commemoratives, and have been adding a nice MS63-65 example whenever I can. I can think of no other series (including my type set) which shows the shenanigans of U.S. history so well.
Here is the first of my commemorative collection, and an important addition to my numismatic plastic collection: an early Accugrade (ugh!) photoslab which tries to sell this cleaned AU coin as an MS-63. I love the coin, since I live on Chicago's Southside, two blocks away from the last standing building from the 1892-93 Columbian Exposition, and was named as a defendant in the first round of Accugrade's lawsuit against small time coin collectors who were also anti-ACG internet posters. Obverse Reverse. I collect mostly Barber coins, so I cherish this one, made for the ladies who helped pan and coordinate the same event in my neighborhood. (It's in an ANACS AU-58 slab and not net-graded). Obverse Reverse looked like ya needed a little help there
vipergts2, those are wonderful commens. Hold on to those, they are beautiful and I think the commen market is getting strong. I just bought a Lexington at a show a couple of weeks ago. I almost bought an oregon trail, but my 3 year old daughter started getting bored and we had to leave.
1928 hawian commen I am new to this board and what I have seen here I am happy I found it. I am lloking for the 1928 Hawiian commen, after I get it I will have a complete collection of early commens. I can take photos if you like however I do not know how to post them yet. The commen that I like is the gettyburg and danial boon, well I just love them all
Welcome to the forum Watscomp! Can't wait to see photos..it's easy to post them here.Just click on the link here. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=8566 You can reduce them to 100KB or less and upload them, put them on any website and link to that address or add them to the gallery here at the top of the page and link to that.
Chop them up seperately, or if you want, pass a much larger photo to me and I'lll put it on my webserver. Its 2006, why doesn't everyone have a webserver? Ruben
Mikjo0, I like your commems very much, especially the second one, with Miss Liberty looking upward at things obviously symbolizing the 13 original colonies. Is the 1776 supposed to be the actual production date or just symbolic?
I have a complete type set BU. Bought them all in the 50's and early 60's. I wish I had been able to collect the complete set 142 coins. Sorry, I can't put the pictures on.
