I just received this coin today. It’s a 1986-D Commemorative Half Dollar. It’s the first copper-nickel clad half dollar commemorative and it depicts the United States heritage as a nation of immigrants. The obverse was designed by Edgar Steever and pictures a ship of immigrants steaming into New York Harbor with the Statue of Liberty greeting them and the New York skyline in the distance. The reverse was designed by Sheri J. Winter and has a scene of an immigrant family with all of their personal belongings on the threshold of America. The Statue of Liberty is considered the gateway to America. A total of 928,008 were minted. I needed one last Commemorative Half for my Dansco 7070 and at under $8.00 this was it.
Those are what all my friends and relatives are getting for their annual "Everyone Has a Coin Collection, Whether They Want One or Not!" Christmas gift this year!! Some will get proof and some will get uncirculated.
