Coventry Half Penny or Lady Godiva and Peeping Tom On A Coin

I see you have the 1792 sidesaddle version. I need to get one of those.

The 1792's are the genuine tokens, the 93's, 94's and 95's are all contemporary counterfeits. In 1792 the municipality of Coventry released a large number of the tokens to ease a serious coin shortage. They were well accepted and popular so the counterfeiters got into the act and released the same design in 1793, but the city DIDN'T issue any more tokens so all the post 92's are counterfeits or fantasies. The city also only issued the elephant and castle reverse (it was the arms of the city) I have all of the genuine 1792 varieties and all but 1 of the 1793 counterfeit varieties.

There was also an issue by Thomas Sharpe of Coventry that shows The house Peeping tom watched from and it has his figure in the upstairs window. I have one of those as well. (Not an easy token to get, the mintage was only 24) I have thought about doing a exhibit with the story and then having the Peeping Tom token in the center with all the 1792 Lady Godiva around it, and all the 1793 Lady Godivas around those.

There are 7 varieties of genuine 1792's, 8 varieties of counterfeit 1793 with the elephant and castle design and 1 with the Coventry Cross design. There are 3 1794 counterfeits all with the Coventry Cross, and 3 1795 counterfeits, one with Elephant and Castle, one with Coventry Cross, and one fantasy with the arms of the Associated Irish Mine Company
