I see clickbait stories all the time about "if you have these pennies you're rich", but this one's beyond the pale:

Spare Change: Half-Cent Coins Hiding Among Your Pennies Could Be Worth Thousands

Sure, if you can't tell the difference between something the size of a "penny" and something the size of a quarter. Let me drop everything and go dump my coin jar!

Also, "one of these mints"? o_O

That's funny..... I used to take the bait as a kid when the comic books would have that tiny advertisement about priceless dimes in my change! LOL

Or how we could become another Norman Rockwell from signing up for the Famous Artists School in Westport, Ct. Send in your sample copy of the person or animal that you drew and you were automatically accepted. LOL

Durring the holidays the history channel had the toy series, Wamo items a slinky....etc....It was a flash back to the days of co ic books, Boys Life Magazine all the ads in those that made ever kid eye light up and minds wonder...
A kid I grew up with thought it be cool to own a monkey....you could buy one $14.95 from the back pages of Boys life......well Mike purchased the $15 monkey.... his dad Mr. Mike wasnt to happy with the freight company call to pick it up down town Baltimore, and pay the freight charges from Fla.
    Why the things we do?

Oh yeah, the Spider Monkeys. I always wanted one. Every month I was at the Library when Boys Life and Popular Science came in. I would write down dozens of ads with addresses and write to every one I copied. I loved getting mail. I ended up selling Grit newspaper, seeds for the American Seed Company, greeting cards, trading stamps for coins, getting stamp approvals in the mail. I LOVED MAIL. Those were the days.

When I was 16 I sold Amway products door to door from my bike. I was the youngest ever Amway distributer known at the time and even had to get a Mass. sales tax certificate to pay sales tax. When you came from a farm family of 10 you had to be an entrepreneur. There was no allowance, just plenty of chores with the animals and gardens. Reminds me of the song lyrics...Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end... We started our garage band when we were 14. Never made much money but what a blast we had. We had two incarnations, The Wanderers & Red Eye Express. The second was after a song by John Mayall.

I was the youngest of 3....but worked from 7 y/o.
Well first went to Catholic school...the nuns made you sell penny candy at recess, they always had Christmas cards for you to sell, then the candy drive then Easter cards, then Easter candy...the Catholic review news paper....and the list goes on and on.
My paper route was good size but no one even being from a mid size family nothing came easy....I got a card and $5 for HS graduation. My college I paid for...but you know what no worries we are self made men.
I never had to worrie about answering to anyone...because I paid the bill.

Here's an old newspaper ad from one of our gigs. Our lead guitarist, Chris, 1 the wanderers.jpg passed at 22 of a heart attack but the rest of us are still friends 53 years later. His name was not here but he was playing at the event.

I never went to Catholic school but the nuns still had us doing all this after catechism classes. We had to help at the Penny Socials and Bingo games also. My graduation gift was my class ring. My mother took in ironing rich people's clothes to earn extra money for this. Self made is so true and is rarely seen anymore. It's probably still there somewhere but mostly just seems to be an outstretched hand to often.

I do at times think about my childhood and school mates. So many have passed...I keep reminding myself that I'm lucky to made it this far. Esspecially since working the type of work I did....shot at several times ....knifed ....by a crazy customer. You look back at times when you were just a step away from a dirt nap...and wonder why your still around.....and your friends have passed.

OK I bought the X-RAY SPECS Very disappointed they didn't let me see bones, Boy I was excited to get them too. Sad day for a 8 year old that was going to make family rich after I found that 1943 copper penny that was on the back of EVERY comic book back in the day.
