So I Found this Two .. Am I correct that this is a LOW SN? And on the One..? Can you see the Error? Small Lines? I looked in my book and couldn't see this as a Error Type.. Is there a Name or is it just a Press issue that is common? Thanks All. I Think I am loving the Currency as much as the Coins.. Love my American Banknote Co. Items..
The lines you are seeing appear to be alignment marks and quite a few of them to say the least.. I am not 100% sure as I have not seen an example with so many before...it looks as though it was adjusted and re-adjusted several times...have never seen them so long... Again, this is what it appears to be to me, I could be totally wrong. RickieB
On this $5 Silver Cert you can see the horizontal and vertical alignment lines in the lower and right margins..this is not unusual, however, what you posted is quite unusual..again, I am postulating as I have not seen such a bold example before. RickieB
Thanks.. Nice Note!! And a Star to boot!! I Work in Printing for a while when I was young.. aware of the alignment marks and Cut markers.. These look more like maybe a dragging of the print in several areas.. Not sure how that might happen or how they run these through those super machines.. maybe different markers for different parts of the note?.. Brush hairs stuck in press?? Thanks again for any info.. It was a good day strap searching!! This one is my first "Error" ( I guess) and I got 6 1957 Silver Certs. From the Bank.. Not too bad.
maybe it was from some type of gripper that was on the printing press. i have a hawaii silver certificate that has 2 of these lines. that is what i always suspected that it was, you can see it just left of the hawaii on the left side of the note. your note seems to have a lot more. just my .02
MPCUSA.. No not really an over inking inthe alignment marks...It is sort of like your printer when you load paper..it auto aligns the paper to get a straight print..I am not 100% sure how the presses work at the BEP but these line are not unusual to see..maybe someone with more experience will come along and recognize the marks..I am simply postulating at the cause. RickieB
I would almost say they look like alignment for the Fonts almost.. Some lie just on the right place then some don't .. I think it is some kind of dragging error.. But Love that nobody is sure.. Can't wait to find out for sure.. Thanks to all for all the input!!
Wow, I was thinking I might wake up and someone might have had an answer.. Cool.. Well I am off to work.. Hope someone knows something about this... My Mystery One.. Thanks again all!!
Ouch .. Back from work and no more thoughts as to the cause.. Well Maybe I need to just go hunt down another one.. I wish!
RickieB's note has printing alignment marks. On most of the 12-subject series, there's a mark between the C and D positions, and another between I and J; depending on the era, it's either a horizontal mark as on RickieB's note, or a vertical mark. The mark at the center of the sheet is either vertical as on RickieB's note, or T-shaped--see this note for a nice example of the latter. The 18-subject sheets usually have a horizontal mark between C and D, a vertical one between I and J, and a horizontal one between O and P. The marks on the 32-subject sheets have changed over time, too--in recent years, what alignment marks there are are so far out in the sheet margins that they don't appear on any of the notes unless the cutting's off a bit. In no case do the alignment marks fall within the design of any note--they're always in the margins between the notes. So the note at the start of this thread has something else entirely. Whether it's a BEP error or post-printing damage, I can't tell. Likewise, I have no idea whether the mark on the Hawaii note originated at the BEP. Edited to add: Answering the other question, two leading zeroes do not make a low serial number. Five leading zeroes is low; four is sort of low; less than that and nobody much cares, I'm afraid. Your $2's serial number *might* attract a little interest because it has five zeroes in it, but that's a different issue.
Numbers!! Your The Pro!! Tell me PLEASE about what you might think caused the lines on the One.. In The org. post and then some close ups down from there.. Thanks...
