As some of you know, I collect classic commemorative and as I was perusing for a 1915 S Panama Pacific half dollar, I ran across this: 1915-S PANAMA-PACIFIC COMMEMORATIVE SO-CALLED DOLLAR HK-399 IN SILVER Having never seen one of these before, I immediately investigated and found this site: http://www.so-calleddollar.com/about-so-called-dollars/ So-Called-Dollars are medals for special events around America, some worth quite a lot. The trouble I now find myself in, is that I have yet another avenue to collect. Dagnabit, now I have another avenue to spend yet more of my money. LOL I love seeing new and different designs for a change, and was fascinated with the variety of different items available. Just go through some of the "For Sale" items and see what I mean.
Well not so if you just limit yourself . I have been scaling back too. So many side things going on....so I promised myself to cut back on items as such and put my focus on what needs to be completed . However I like these too this one in particular. I purchased a print a few years back for the 1915 Panama canal. Its a print of the USS San Diego on a nice 8 x10 card I was thinking of find one of these so called dollars and framing the two together. Ill need to image the print to show you Mt man. But I do love that Art Deco coin.
It's a good thing. This is one of those hobbies that, all of a sudden, you see something new up close and personal and all of a sudden you spring back to life. It's very addicting.
Youre so correct....and Tommy at my age I need to see some compleation of sets or collection,rather than finding new ones. I honestly have been trying to control my wants...as lets face it your wants always exceed your needs....
Just a suggestion, if easier said than done, but limit yourself to what was/is circulating coinage only, maybe excepting something of ASE/AGE, modern commems, etc...something like that. Otherwise, as you seem to already well know...it can get out of hand (wallet). Good luck.

Your medal is Art Nouveau stylistically, not Art Deco. Art Nouveau, which was popular from the 1890's to 1915, usually depicts a sense of dynamism and movement, often with asymmetric elements. The Walking Liberty Half Dollar, Mercury Dime, St. Gaudens $20 Gold Coin reflect Art Nouveau qualities. Art Deco design, which attained great popularity in the 1920's & 1930's, grew out of Art Nouveau and extended the design to include cubistic elements. The forms are more geometric, stylized and open. The Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and the majority of the buildings at the 1939 New York Worlds Fair art considered as classic Art Deco designs.
My 1905 Lewis & Clark Centennial Exposition HK-325 "so-called dollar" silver commem medal. Coin details for that commem , especially on reverse, are exquisite.
