This was in a uncirculated coin roll. On the reverse it looks like the edges of the outer perimeter of the discoloring is like its it a string from a cloth or something.
my cents look like that when I leave them in the truck pockets too long laying on top of each other. Condensation hot/cold caused this I am thinking.
I've seen some strange things on solid date rolls also. But this could have happened from N.F. String or Loomis or Wells Fargo where they roll the cents after receiving them. Just looks stained as mentioned above. Maybe some spilled morning coffee.
I’d agree some kind of pmd. I’ve searched shield Cent rolls that are uncirculated and all of one date 2020 and then I’d find 1 or 2 cents that are circulated and a year behind. Sometimes a couple coins slip threw the new roll process however that works
It sure makes it difficult to try and figure it out. Endless possibilities. Where it meets the rim on both sides of the obverse the rim is discolored as well. On the obverse about 9 it is thick on both ends. It is hard to explain the obverse and the reverse. I agree that the reverse looks like another cent could have have laid on it but that wouldn't explain the obverse. I will just add it to the mystery section of my collection just because it looks interesting. Much appreciated!!!
Appears to be environmental damage. Maybe caused by other coins coming in contact and then toning. Either way, it's still just a Zincoln and NAV, just interesting. Thanks for the post.
