I just got the new 2022 Walking Liberty silver dollar and Im wondering if this is an error of some kind. The same thing is on the direct opposite side just not as noticable. I do appoligize im really new to coin collecting and the terminology is all greek to m.
Seems to be an issue with the collar. Can you get some clearer photos of both the obverse and reverse, and third side (edge) less lighting on the edge would help. Welcome to CT.
Isn't that a "security feature" on the new ones? Edit: yep. https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...iking-new-american-eagle-silver-bullion-coins
Welcome to CT @DLVermillion. I believe you got your answer above, security device, although rather obvious. There are supposedly other, smaller, things in the coin that are new security devices, but shhhh . . . .
Yes they started doing it on the 21 type 2 ASE's and all I have seen are at 6:00. Possibly they are going to change the position for each year? Saw a bunch of 22's Sunday but didn't examine them.
For anyone else who stumbles across this, although I guess it'll be common knowledge In The Future: apparently they ARE changing the position with the new year, at least on AGEs.
