John, When my friends ask me to explain inflation I show them one of my $20 gold coins & inform them that a coin of this quality would cost 150 $20 bills .
Thanks. The CNG retail coin "shop" has always had prices significantly inflated over what one would pay at retail for an equivalent coin to most VCoins or MA-Shops dealers. Perhaps they assume that most of their customers are unfamiliar with other retail outlets for ancient coins!
FPL = Fixed Price List I think. Some auction houses have a "fixed price list", in which they sell coins, for fixed prices. EDIT : Doh! 2 other people beat me to it. Anyway, FPL still means "Fixed Price List". I'm pretty sure about that, now.
Their "Fixed Price List" does have bargains. At Triton XXV a Kanisakha III AV Dinara sold for $3150+ 20% fees/ they had one in their Numismatic Review (better coin) for fixed price $1650. I was bidding on original but quit at $1800. So, I ended up getting their ex. for $1650. Heritage sold one lesser quality for $2100 + 20 % fees/ last year.
I agree, sometimes very good buys are out there, especially compared to the auctioned coins, with their high hammer prices. It is really a matter of being at the right place at the right time, knowing the rarity/desirability of a given coin and its value.
Thanks, I did see the price list, but as @pprp pointed out in his numerous posts- anything on FPL, already has been marked up 3x…so I stopped checking those FPLs, as there is nothing in there for me, and I would feel uncomfortable paying 3x for something that was bought at the auction a month ago…
