    Good evening everyone!

Visited a new LCS today and picked up a few 1968-1970 mint sets. Not a huge batch, about 20 total, but I was very happy with the results.

No Small Dates, no RPMs, but I did find a couple really interesting pieces:

    1968 S Jefferson Nickel

There were actually quite a few somewhat prooflike Jefferson Nickels in this batch (although I doubt any would garner a TPG PL designation, so no matter) - but I did find this piece with Full Steps (although to be completely honest, it has a very light line crossing the steps horizontally under the third column.)

Due to the PL nature of the fields, my camera doesn't seem to want to focus properly (either that or maybe I'm going blind now haha) so imaging the steps properly was a huge struggle for me tonight. I might give it another shot tomorrow.

Either way, it's got the most steps I've ever seen on a 68S.

That was a pretty fun find, but the real fun find of the night was a variety I've never found before (I've found plenty of 1970 S LMC Small Dates, RPMs, and 1970 D Roosevelt Dime DDRs, plus a few others.)

    1970 D Washington Quarter DDR (FS-802)

The reverse appears to be a later die state - the doubling is evident on the serifs, but not so much in the middles of the letters. It's really difficult to capture properly tonight, although I think there is still enough detail to identify.

In UNITED, you can really only see the split serifs on the lower right corners of NIT:

You can see it clearly on the upper right corner of E in STATES, the lower left in the second S of STATES, as well as a few of the top left corners of E PLURIBUS:

It's easiest to see here on the first R (upper left and lower right) E (upper left) and the second R (upper left.) You can also see it a little bit under the branch stems. (Again, my camera and I were struggling tonight.)

The reverse lettering on the outer rim is all noticeably thicker than normal, which is what triggered my brain to take a closer look with the loupe. As I've said, it's much easier to see in hand than it is in my images tonight - but that's just how it goes sometimes with closeups and my camera. I don't think I did a great job showing the doubling, but I think there's enough there to confirm the variety.

I was going to be happy no matter what (adding more 1970 D Kennedy Halves to my hoard), but these two finds are icing on the cake. Thanks for checking out my post!

Nice enough photos. I've been told by movie technicians that when something is too shiny for the camera, just spray it with hair spray. LOL

I would not use hair spray on any coin, just my opinion.

Awesome photos, wish I could capture images like yours. My camera skills are poor. I thought my first Canon SLR was broke until some old guy told me I had to put the lens on…

Haha, thanks - it's soooo tricky getting the lights and the coin and the camera to all play nicely enough that I can show the doubling enough that someone else can see it from the pictures. I'm still learning every time I image a coin, so it's a process.

I was mostly just excited to find a new variety from a set. Plenty of the normal ones, haha...

The 1970-D Quarter is very nice. The strike is strong and the fields/devices look pretty clean.

Regardless of the variety, you may have at least an MS-66 and hopefully a MS-67+.

This is one of my current pushes. Digging through UNC early clad quarters for Gem/Super Gem examples. I think there is alot of upside value and demand currently and near future. Plus, it's just kind of fun.
