Was given a box of world coins and I’m trying to identify each one. This one has me stumped. I’m pretty sure it’s Chinese but can identify the period. Was hoping someone here could help. The color in the first photo is more accurate.

    China, Qianlong (1735 - 1795)

Xi'an Shaanxi mint. Looks like Hartill 22.331 "Local type, very variable" narrows the date from 1754-1784.

@Muzyck Thanks. I searched for Hartill 22.331 but can’t find any information. I have been using coin.net but can’t find anything on Qainlong that matches either. Where are you finding your information. Thanks for the help.

Thanks to @Muzyck I can decode the symbols for the emperor - “Qian” and “Long” but the other two on the obverse are still elusive. On the reverse I’m able to decode “Boo” but the second symbol I don’t have a match yet.

I am using the David Hartill book "Cast Chinese Coins". You can also use Ch'ien-lung as and alternative to Qianlong. It is unlikely that you will find that detail (22.331) online. Hartill cross references it to publications Fisher's Ding (FD2313) and Schjöth - Chinese Currency (S1468).

    The reverse is Boo shan.

Closest match I see on Numista

@Muzyck that’s definitely the reverse of the coin. I going to get a copy of the book. I have a box of coins that I’m trying to get cataloged and that would help. Thanks again.

It's a great reference, easy to use and doesn't cost that much.
