WELL, CHARGING ME 19.40 WHEN THEY JUST STUCK IT IN A 9.00 2-DAY PRIORITY ENVELOPE, then it takes 10 days to arrive??? some said would come fed ex, or registered, nope just a 9.00 envelope, i charge my customers 9.75, i do not gouge on shipping, not bidding with them anymore, last time they charged me 6.00, that was fair, now 2 coins is 19.41?? nope, no way, never again, as far as the coins, yes, very happy with them a 1880-s morgan in ms-66 with a strike through lamination?? and (another) clipped war nickel (own 2 now, the other was off ebay for less, of course..both from ngc tpg..the nickel is a 1944-p ms-66 with a clip and hope you enjoy..the dollar came out to 321.00 after all fees, the nickel 106.00 also for all those who nit-pick me about the clips i post, this one DOES NOT have a blakesly effect either, so???...
I wired payment and it still took something like 10 days + for order to be received but arrived at 12 day mark. I'm not complaining, is what it is. Their photography is up w/ the best, all your purchases now have an auction history w/ photos, you can entertain offers on their site if you choose to do so, etc... Every Heritage shipment I've ever received comes w/ lot stickers on the slab, slabs sealed in protective carboard, return stickers on cardboard, a quality purchase record, etc... Those are true handling costs as far as I'm concerned. Priority mail is insured up to $50 if I'm not mistaken, so everything on top of that is additional. I don't know, I feel like everything's made pretty clear, including the BP, which is in bold red or something when you bid, isn't it? I like a quality/no BS auction experience and feel they fit that bill.
There is more to mailing an item than the postage. The postage is what the company pays the post office. That doesn't include the time and material to pack it up and ship it out. Heritage isn't making money on postage. They're probably not even covering the total cost involving shipping. Even after collecting the sellers and buyer's fees they're not making much money off the sale. Don't forget someone even spent time taking pictures of the coin.
Bumping postage fees seems to be the norm for many companies now. I always look at fees charged before I buy. Fees to high, I don't buy!
the shipping price & time shocked me, and i am going to stick with great collections, i like them much better, they will hold coins for layaway (like i am doing this month cuz went way way over budget), heritage was a little snotty to me when i tried to ask about consigning some rare astronaut, Hubble space telescope items i have, actual tech reports and calendars, the guys security pass the whole 9 yards from one of the guys that built it, lol,, funny thing, i did a =clan out at a ceramics studio, and the f=woman that sold me the materials was aslo a guidance tech on the hubble as well, weird, no connection but one after the other, lol
5000 coins in an auction X 10,00 over on postage equals 50,000.00 per sale, that can def cover many employees salaries, and we are paying it, they make so much money shipping should be cost, or free they already kill ya on the buying fee, most in the business 29.00 on a 5.00 coin is excessive
i know this, but every time i show a clip, certain indicviduals cry foul every time, lol no blakesly, looks cut with tin snips, and when it has the blakesly they say the cutting tool forms it,. lol i am just showing off my collection when i get new ones to people who (hopefully) might like to see em, do not like arguing all the time, lol
Postal fees for a flat rate padded priority envelope and insurance for $326 come to just about $16. ($9.65 for the envelope, $6.40 for the insurance.) Add in some cost for their own expenses handling and packaging and they possibly made a dollar or two.
=IF they insured it, most companies that ship in the neighborhood of 5 million or more self insure, i was a traffic manager and worked in shipping & receiving at many jobs over a 12 year period..do i believe they insource insurance or outsource for a better fee than the post offie, regardless, the handling time, and the exorbitant buyer fees has me leaning more to great collections, last year alone i bought 7,000 from gc, and only 600 from heritage, less buyers fees, means i can bid higher, and get my coins and the seller )consignee) makes more money too
Yes many do ether oursource to a lower cost insurer, or self insure. but in either case they still have to pay for the insurance, either to another firm or to an internal account to have to funds to pay insurance claims, And it still increase the postal fee you pay. And in all case the insurance rate is calculated based on the amount of claims they expect to have to pay out.
