I picked up this coin with a few other silver proofs. I assumed it would be straightforward to identify and record, but seem to be struggling! It does not appear to be on Numista, and none have sold or are for sale on Ebay. Even my 2019 year book for British coins does not list it as an option. I have even searched for the same reverse on another coin, in case it is a mule, but not found anything. Does anyone know any more? Standard Crown size and weight and appears to be silver: Pictured in its ring holder - marks and dust are on the outside.
Well you've got me beat Paddy. This is the only image I can find, and it's a dead link. Looks to be a Westminster issue but I can't see anything on their site.
@PaddyB You might try the World of Coins forum - Eurocoin on there seems very well up on modern commemoratives.
Thanks for the tip - I have tried but the whole of that site fails the privacy check, and the google search brings it up with description withheld - all of which makes it appear a dodgy site! Not sure anyway that I want to add yet another coin forum to my list
Looked at NGC World Coin Price Guide about 1:30 am this morning… Jersey lists 12 coins this date/denom, mostly battleground sites, but not yours. I am presuming this is where you were referring as to not there. They also had zero pictures for any of them neither. I was sorely disappointed (for you) but not surprised, I have run into this before. I was hoping to find some info for you. Good luck in your research…BTW…lovely coin…Spark (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/je...91870/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email)
Answer from another site courtesy of @mrbadexample : "These were indeed developed by The Westminster Collection. The piece was released as part of the Seafaring & Exploration Series. The coin series was released in capsules with certificates and a display box, as well as packaged in Phila Numismatic Covers with a foreign stamp on them. The loose coins had an edition limit of 25,000 pieces per coin. The PNC's had an edition limit of 995 per coin. The series consisted of pieces of Gibraltar, Jersey and Guernsey. It was a mismatch of themes and designing styles. The Jersey pieces were done in the same style and form a kind of sub-series. The coins of Jersey depicted respectively Christopher Columbus, Robert Falcon Scott, Captain James Cook and Vasco Da Gama." Still intrigues me that there is so little reference to these on the web - at auctions, or Ebay or Numista.
Given the number of commemoratives that get churned out these days that something slipped through the cracks but a Jersey commemorative is hardly niche. I am surprised ebay didn't give much though.
