Yesterday was a disaster! I had some nice Kushan AV Dinara on my hit list/ ended up loosing all three by a wide margin. Seemed two bidders in particlar where going ballistic and coins ended up going 10X estimates. Today, my target was a AV Solidus of Basiliscus and Marcus/ lost that too. Finally, I checked other coins of interest/ one a AV Unite of James I in CNG grade "EF"/ top proxy bid was $3250. I waited till the lot came up to my surprise, it went to final bid/ I laid down 3500 and ended up winning it:)

    England/ House of Stuart
AV Unite ND/ Second Coinage (struck 1615/6) Tower Mint mm. "Tun"
James I of England/ VI of Scotland 1603-25
Crowned half leght armored bust/ holding Orb/ and Lis tipped Scepter
    IACOBVS*D*G*MA*BRI*FRA*ET*HI*REX
    Crowned Coat of Arms/ flanked by I - R
    10.00g. 37mm. .916

    North 2085 SCBC 2620

James I (VI) of Scotland always had a phobia of being stabbed to death/ and was prone to wear armor.
Please add coins you won at Triton:) stuart-james-i-1603-1625-av-7738607.jpg

I placed a serious bid by my standards and got thoroughly crushed.

Same for me. I had 3 bids in that were significantly higher than I've paid for a coin ever and decently higher than estimate and still got obliterated. It was a fruitless endeavor.

I guess there was no need to worry that having a "hybrid" auction instead of a fully live one would depress the prices!

I had no luck in TRITON, but that is not surprising as I did not bid in or watch it.
I did watch the The New York Sale and picked up my first RR denarius in a while.

There was a Knossos drachm which I liked. Placed a very significant bid on it (after much deliberation), and wasn't even close.

At the price it sold for, it should be the finest Knossos drachm to come on the market in recent times, but it isn't (not to say it isn't still a great example), but the price was way out of proportion.

I'll wait for NAC in May/June, seem to have more luck there.

I noted when the Kushan section came up, mostly two bidders where at war with each other to win the lots at any cost.
One coin, that I had won few years back with Heritage, sold for six times what I paid in 2017(mine is better quality. The "DEMAND" for ancients is HOT and seems to be no sign of ever cooling down. The "World/ British" part of auction was not cheap either/ but at least average day collector has a chance to compete. On my computer the auction had to be "refreshed' every 10 mins or so.....never had this happen before.

Honestly surprised by some of the replies here, maybe I was just watching the wrong coins.

Put a handful of RICs on my watchlist but didn’t even bother bidding or watching live as I just knew they’d go for 2-3x estimate like always. And then… they didn’t. Some very nice Flavians especially barely made estimate. Maybe the obnoxious investors are backing away?

I won 2/10 coins that I placed bids on. I was the underbidder on 4 or 5 of the lots that I lost, and a few others were way out of my range. I thought prices for the Republican/early imperial were super aggressive.

2/10 is not bad. Which ones did you win?

5 bids, 0 success. I was fighting really hard for 3 of them, all with the same guy at the end, but had to give up when it went completely insane...

I found the Stacks auction to be equally challenging and a lot of coins were bid up way beyond what I expected..

Personally I was close on one target and absolutely blown out (by 200%) on the other.

Do we have any winners here?

Nope! I got annihilated there too. I expected to lose on most but thought I would have a good chance at least winning 1. I was blown away on almost every single lot and there were at least 3 coins I put what I thought would be competitive bids on. The price explosion just continues to get more outrageous.

I did not try (Stack's) I did win two lots Spink Auction:)
I was leading on a Bretagne AV Cavalier d'or Francois I MS-64. Once my high bid ($4400) was eclisped, I let it go. Too many other goodies coming up.
