The Abe Lincoln's dollar has very weak edge lettering pictures didn't turn out

 

Damage on the half. How? Your guess is as good as anyone's.
Edge lettering probably has to do with wear from tumbling around.

 

That line through the "L" is raised isn't it?

 

No it clearly isn't. You can see that it cuts through the letter and the rim as well.

 

Do a separate thread. Better pictures are needed.

The first photo I saw, without scrolling down, I thought you found a half with missing clad, but then realized all of your photos of that coin made it look that way. LOL
