Ok question as I am not an expert on this coin series, Have a look at the pictures I have posted and let me know what you see /or think? Bruce another member of this forum and I were looking at this coin last night and can't decide what to think of it. I am not going to post what we saw or talked about until later.... ...wanting to see what some others see and think. Thanks Paddy
Paddy, Unfortuneately those pictures aren't going to be enough for anything meaningful. We need bigger and clearer pictures.
LD is right... the pics are awfully small to tell much from. Even so, I'm concerned about the luster / surfaces... it appears burnished or polished.
yeah been having uploading problems on this site....my pictures always trun out smaller than what were taken . I shot this with a 10 meg Nikon but they aren't big enought to see what I'm talking about. . look at the rim on both the obv. & rev. seems this coin was maybe struck out side the collar? Not knowing if they used a clooer in thoses days but there is a rim around the rim. I'll try uploading some better pic's . Thanks Paddy
Hmmm... there's that funk on the reverse, 'twixt the eagle's shoulder and UNITED. Sometimes a whiz job leaves that sort of seam. Is that what you saw ?
That might make for a huge photo. Try lower resolution. I open the raw photos in Photoshop and "save for web". They turn out fine. Probably not. These coins often show die buckling in that very spot... a few millimeters inside the rim. It's possible that's what you're seeing. It gives the concentric "rim within a rim" look. They are later die state coins. Most folks prefer early die state Indian incuse for that very reason. Yes, they were using collars for these coins.
Thanks , I'll try to shoot a better picture...I've been very busy with two new dogs I rescued last sunday. The male is a couch potato... the female is on speed LOl and she has a small bladder LOl as she is always having to go...both are terriers him boston/ jack russell her rat / jack mixed. very cute but what the hell was I thinking LOL!!! No we love them both time will settle her down! Heck I had 3 dalmations talk about a dog with enegery! The date on the coin seems to be SE of the normal and both sides show signs of the rim within a rim the star point that is at 9 oclock is also off the edge of the coin .....Like I posted Bruce picked up on this coin last night while we were talking .
I don't believe this coin was whizzed I shot it in sun light as my cam bat is wearing out and don't hold a good charge. there are two scratches at 10K on the rev. if it was worked they would of surely buffed them out.
