What is your least favorite coin series? Meaning you just dont see the appeal or get tired of seeing over and over when reading threads, shopping and so on. I would have to go with wheat backs & other starter coins. I could be the minority but I dont enjoy Wheatbacks, Buffalo, Mercury's, & some others. I tend to be one of those people who dumps 1940's and 1950's Jefferson Nickels into coinstar machines, same with wheatbacks. I do see if there is any important dates but 9x outta 10 there isnt any. I know as collectors we have to start off somewhere but I am having to replace/get rid of many starter coins I was given as a kid and I really have no love/use for them. I have been selling them in small batches recently and its like they continue to grow in spots I didnt know they were stored, lol. Same goes when I am looking online or at a dealer case, I tend to skip all those kinds and head to other coins.
Iam not really in to coins that much though i do still have a few, But if i had To pick one avg looking coin it would have to be the Jefferson Nickle not That its ugly or anything it just lacks a certain appeal.
i know a LOT of people on here will disagree with me, but IN MY PERSONAL OPINION the morgan dollar is very blah and boring, which is why i don't collect them.
I dont dislike the morgan but I view it as a starter coin that everyone or a relative probably has cause there is so many of them.
I'm not a big US coin collector but if we're talking US coins, I'm betting that the Roosevelt dimes are going to be high on that list...
No matter what you pick someone will disagree with you. I remember when Ikes were in that list and now there's the DIVA nuts...or when Jeffersons were being picked but LeHigh will set you straight there... If I had to pick though...it'd be the State quarter's. The Washington isn't very good IMO and the reverses lacked art to me. They look more like billboards.
This really should have been a pole. Could have listed almost all the average coins of today and let people vote on the worst. I'll go along with probably the majority with the Jefferson Nickel at the top of the no one likes list. Followed closely by the Roosevelt Dime. Although there are possibly billions or trillions of people (Exaggeration of course) that collect those State Quarters, I predict that the majority of them will end up in banks as deposits soon. I find it odd that almost all Nickels are shunned with the exception of the famous Indian Head/Buffalo Nickel. No big value on the Shield ones. Same with the Liberty Heads. If you check out the prices on the Liberty Head Nickels you would think they just came out with those really low values. Not sure what our government thinks since the Indian Head/Buffalo Nickel is so popular that design is copied on many other coins by our government. So why not reinstate it as our Nickel?
Mine would have to be the Standing Liberty quarter. I shiver every time I hear someone say how beautiful the design is. To me it's almost as bad as the Barber quarter. Never could get into either series. Guy~
Agreed! I think Morgans are just an invitation to get ripped off. I understand their appeal and the lore around them but I think they represent an exchange of wealth from one person to the next for the most part. I met one guy that had spent $40K on Morgans and they were beautiful. He owned them for about 4 or 5 years and was looking to sell them for $40K. No one was willing to give him more than $20K. I'm sure he ended up selling them at a loss.
I'd go with the State/territory/America the beautiful quarters. It's just the mint cashing in on coin collectors instead of simply producing coins. It may have gotten a lot of people into collecting, but it sure wasn't what lured me back. They'll never have any value over face.
Anything after 1964. I don't collect anything after that date, with the exception of Comemmoratives. My favorite coins are half dollars.
OMG! As most have said: Morgan Dollars - I cannot understand the blind following Barber Dimes/Quarters/Half - YAWN - Wish I could make the YAWN bigger
SBAs are my least favorite modern series. I know they can be quite valuable, but Seated Liberties are my least favorite classic. TC
Ok, I will start a poll under a new thread, But first we need 5 coins so lets Choose 1. Jefferson Nickle 2. Rosevelt dime 3. State Quarter 4. Morgan Dollar 5> ?
I think to make it a meaningful poll you'll need to break it into two parts: classic and modern. For example, I don't collect moderns so my answer was based on classic coinage. It would be interesting to see both side's views. Guy~
