I solved that problem by deciding NOT to add proof coins to my collection. One Exception: My US birth year set.
Here are the two I bought from a local LCS last August and sent to PCGS to be graded. The coins were part of a collection put together by a man who died in the late 1940's and never left his family until last summer. I've already posted these images in other threads but it's appropriate to post them again here. The first graded PR64DCAM and the other PR64.
Good golly, if he haunted his family for that long, I'd be terrified to hold any of his coins! (sorry, couldn't resist...)
Poor choice of words on my part; although I've been seeing ghosts since I bought them. I'm planning on sending them to Great Collections in the near future to exorcise the ghost.
Does this count? [Narrator - No, no it certainly does not] This plug ugly 1860-S is one of my favorites just because of the history and limited survival of the piece (56,000 minted, highest survivor according to PCGS is MS61), also it's the opposite of what you've got, so that's kind of fun. Collecting proof Seated Liberty's is rarified air - I hope you post more, they are beautiful and fun to see. Seriously though, this is an ugly baby, isn't that neat? Why can't we all just get along?
Mine's rather ugly compared to the other proof half dimes already posted, but posting pics anyway (pics not the best either, lol).
I guess I'm obligated to post it in this thread, too, if only to break the ice on what constitutes "ugly":
I just learned last week that "lowball" graded coins are a thing, and that people pay up for them. Learn something new every, uh, week.
