I guessed 2500-3000 but that includes things like the five sets of modern Lincolns and my rolls of euros and that sort of thing.

I responded, but have only been collecting a few years and fall into the 301-500, not counting hoarded pre-1982 copper pennies and stuff like that.

That is a good question. I have no idea except out of those there are 12 completed sets in Whitman Classic Albums. All the rest are in 2x2's, plastic rolls, etc. You asked for a legitimate use. None at all. Just a lot of fun. That is what a hobby is for you know.
Not only for completed sets but if I wanted to weigh down a body like they did in the roaring 20's, I could do it with Dimes instead of chains and concrete. :goofer:
Or glue them to a sidewalk in a really busy area and stand back and watch people trying to pick them up. :)

From the responses it would appear the entire poll should be changed to something with sections.
    Coins you hoard 1 -100, 101 - 500, 501 - 1,000, etc.
Coins for collections = same as above.
Coins in slabs = same as above
Coins in 2x2's = same as above
Coins in your auto for tolls = same as above
Coins in a jar for the kids to buy stuff so thier teeth rot out = same as above.
Coins you found under the cushions of the couch = same as above.
Coins you hid from your wife (husband if your female) = same as above.

I am in the thousand range but if i were to count all the lucky irish pennys and world coins (that inculeds the us) then i would be close to the 3 thousand.

I figure I have about 120 coins, about 35 indian heads, about two dozen capped busties, some odds and end pieces make up the rest, like this impulse buy I picked up a while back.

Growing up the 1950d nickel was supposed to be a rarity, so when I found this one for 15 bucks I got it, I do not collect nickels, it was just an impulse.

over 7,000 US coins. Breakdown is approx:
    18th century: 13
    19th century: 1,650
20th century: 3,650 including every copper, silver and clad circulation coin (all 1,401 of them)
    21st century: 2,200

I'm in the process of selling most of the coins so I can concentrate on a complete type set including the 18th century type coins not in the Dansco type book. I may have to settle for not getting the 1796 quarter and halves, but will try for the other (non-gold) 106 type coins.

780, down from well over 1000 since joining.

I’ve learned that I’d rather have 1 coin I like than 100 that are just being horded. Even if it means losing a little bit in the end. it also makes for a lot more room. :thumb:

I have a little over 1,300 coins with different KM numbers. At first I collected by date but then turned to type collecting because I don´t want to watch similar coins site after site.

This brings up another possible survey: how many different (unique date & mintmark) coins are in someone's collection?

What is the criteria for counting? I have about 50 professionally rated and coded coins (ie: XF, AU, BU, Proofs).

I have canvas bags of Wheat Ears, Peace $, and Morgans. I also have a couple thousand Mercury dimes (most with dates), and a few bags of regular nickels.

(I get more enjoyment with handling coins over paper - Paper tends to evaporate.).

    Fun poll.
