I like both, but I'd venture to say that #2 would grade slightly higher based solely on these pictures. #1 has the marks on the cheek. #2 has marks also in the hair (back of head), as well as lower left of the ear. The marks being in the cheek of #1 would be more significant.

I think #2 is a bit better, too. But it graded out straight MS65FBL. #1 got MS65+FBL. I have two more that I think are likely better than #2.

Normally I wouldn’t be concerned over a grade or half a grade but I’m old and I’m getting ready to sell everything. At this point max sell price is the priority and grade is everything on 59FBL.

I think that I’d like to bring this matter to the attention of PCGS. After all, most of the commenters here like #2 better than #1, so I’m not totally off base in thinking that some of my 59Ps might be better than their grade. I’ve been reading about re-submissions and reconsiderations, but have no experience. Have you done either? If so, do you have a recommendation?

@WillGK I wouldn't be much help on the re-submissions and such. Basically a noob here. I don't have the experience with submitting for grading. I prefer raw coins but may get into the graded coins as I get more into older coins.

I wonder if the labels got swtiched? Were they submitted at the same time?

Not sure about sellling a whole collection, and how you're selling, but I've always heard, "but the coin, not the label".

Not sure about resubbing the coins. Would you crack them out yourself and send them in?

Would a CAC sticker be a better option?

I detect a slip of the "but".

No label switch. Different submissions. And CAC looked at #1 and put a sticker on it, so #1 is a good coin at the grade. And #2 and two others are at least equal and I think better and the differences in guide price are significant.

I like your idea of CAC. Easier, faster and less expensive for me to submit to CAC than PCGS. It just just doesn’t seem like it’s worth the bother to go back through PCGS on these sorts of coins that aren’t likely to get a full grade bump.

My problem with Franklins is probably too much information. I accept the expertise of PCGS. I’ve sometimes been disappointed with the grades that come back on my non-Franklins, but I’ve got no quibbles because they seem reasonable versus pictures that I see at places like Heritage and ebay.

Franklins are different. I have a lot of Franklins that I’ve submitted, and more to go. So I can look at these coins, in hand, side by side. And I sometimes see what appear to be grading inconsistencies. And I look online at some of the Franklins that are for sale with grades that are as good as mine, and some of them are obviously crap in comparison. So it goes.

They were pretty darn close IMO

Thanks. That’s what the coins tell me too, side by side - if you like luster #1 is slightly nicer, if you like absence of marks #2 is the choice. But far from equal in the PCGS price guide. #1 is $250 and #2 is a hundred bucks. And CAC says that #1 is properly graded, premium for the grade. Unfortunately I have more of these comparisons, both in 59P and other years. Sigh…
