Ok, I've got to ask. This coin is straight graded. From my perspective, it not only looks like its been cleaned, it looks like its been whizzed. The hairlines are all over the fields both on the obv and rev. What gives? Are all those hairlines on the slab? What am I missing? Santini, this post is not meant to disrespect. I'm trying to learn from you guys since I don't own any seated libs, especially in proof.
The slab is not in good shape at all. But I know what you are talking about. I bought this coin for a song long ago for a type set. I suspect somebody with a dipping solution really went overboard — at a minimum. Guess that PCGS labeled it market acceptable and gave it the relatively low proof grade of 62. FYI, I hoped when I posted it, someone would jump in with their impressions. Take another look at @ldhair ’s half dime. That, at least to me, is what a proof ought to look like.
