Yesterday I made it through the $100 junk silver bag which I never opened. I was amazed at what was junk silver a few years ago. You won’t find junk silver like that today. After going through that bag I went back through the other junk silver I recently opened. Here’s the results from the $100 bag. 1 gold plated 1941 Mercury Dime. 2 proof Roosevelt Dimes. $10 in Mercury Dimes, most pre 1925. Of which there were: 1 1907 Barber Dime 3 1916 Mercury Dimes 2 1916-S Mercury Dimes, and 1 1916-D Mercury Dime $5.00 in Kennedy Halves. Over $5 in Walking Liberty Halves. Over $10 in uncirculated Washington Quarters, mostly 1960’s. A few from the 1950’s. 4 no date Liberty Standing Quarters. A lot of Washington Quarters, mostly before 1950. The following Washington Quarters: 1 1936-S $15.00 10 1937-D $15.00 4 1938 $15.00 3 1938-S $20.00 9 1939-D $11.00 1 1939-S $20.00 1 1940-D $24.00 1 1940-S $9.00 2 1942-S $10.00 All those prices are from the Red Book by RS Yeoman, 2017 edition. We know they are inflated prices but they are also not junk pricing. I only paid 15X for the lot so a very good price for them. When I went through the $250.00 of junk silver total from last weeks finds, I pulled out 4 Whitman’s Folders and started plugging the holes. Here’s the results: Roosevelt Dimes 1946-1964: I only need a 1955 and a 1955-D. I did get the D but it’s a nice RPM so I didn’t plug the hole. Liberty Walking Halves #2 1937-1947: I only need the 1937-S, 1938-D, 1939-S, 1940-S and a 1947. Liberty Walking Halves #1 1916-1936: I need more here, 13 of them, but still a wonderful amount after searching junk silver. Franklin Halves 1948-1964: I just need 4 of them, the 1952-S, 1954-S, 1955 and a 1961-D. I’m a bit surprised by filling as many holes as I did but what’s more surprising is some of the dates I found and didn’t find. Not bad for a total of $250.00 in junk silver. After spending this much time with coins in such a short time I’ve come to one conclusion. I love coin collecting but I would never have made it as a dealer. Lol
I would have included a photo but it’s worn to a point my cell camera won’t pick it up. Only the top left corner of the D shows in hand.
1916D?!?!? Holy Shnikes, congratulations! Junk silver always delivers! (Cause, at worst, it's made out of silver!)
I just found 3 more Walking Halves, a 1916, a 1937-S and a 1940-S. Sometimes I open a box and find more boxes. Like this: I have 6 small boxes and this is the second box like this. Last year I opened a larger box and found about 25 flat rate envelope, all with coins or bills.
