Found this large Bicentennial Coin. I know pretty much nothing about it and was wondering if anyone had ever seen this before? On the front it says "America's Bicenennial 200 Years of Freedom 1776-1976" On the back side it says "America is Best Described By One Word, Freedom" Dwight D. Eisenhower. Any ideas?
Aye. That's a medal, not a coin. I am no specialist on medals, but I understand that the vast majority of modern medals have little to no value. In fact, now that I look at it, that "medal" is so big, it might be a coaster for a beverage.
During the Bicentennial, souvenirs were coming from anybody who could mold, mint or extrude any type of material. It could be anything. By the way, is it a coins pairing (flip vertically) or a medal pairing (flip horizontally like a book)? I actually have one of the paper Moon Dollars used as confetti for the Apollo 11 Parade in Houston in 1969. I bet it's worth almost half of the cost of a stamp to mail it to anyone. It is well worn condition since I didn't know about fold damage to paper in my pre teens. I have a bicentennial medal which might be similar:
Took a look at it and it is medal pairing. Never thought I guess to call it a medal lol I knew it wouldnt be any form of currency either way I am rather fond of it. Kind of a cool thing to have around even if it has little or no real value! By the way I like your medal as well! Kind of interesting that there was so many different ones made! Thanks for the input its been very helpful and interesting!
