Hello all. Curious to know somebody can give me an idea what this Morgan might be worth. Would it be worth it for me to get this graded? I assume it would increase the value but I'm just wondering if someone could guesstimate the grade and what it might be worth. Thanks in advance.

Common date. Circulated and damaged. Definitely not worth the grading fees.

Nice morgan, but no not somehting you want to spend the money to grade being a common date/mm odds are you could buy a considerably higher grade coin (low MS) for under the cost of shipping and grading that one. Nothing against your coin, is just not worth the additional investment :D

I do appreciate that info. It gives me an idea what to ask for it I suppose.

I've got to add that "doubleing" of the O in dollar on the reverse has me stumped... doesn't match any listed VAM.. Have you checked the weight of the coin? I will add I would have it looked at by an expert at this point... If it turns out to be real it could be the discovery piece for DDR001/New VAM... Regretably the more likely conclusion is that you have picked up a chinese mule/fake... but seriously.. have it looked at, even in a lower grade a discovery piece can be worth big bucks :D

I'd say worth a trip to the local coin shop for an opinion... hopefully he'll give you some good news :D

Morgans are broken into varities by "VAMs" based on die pairs used to mint them.. as all these dies then were hand made there were minor differences from die to die... some vams carry premiums for rarity... in this case, no 1883 s VAM is listed that shows a doubled O on the reverse as yours seems to have. though it could be a die break in the O rather then doubling but in either case it is not documented that I can find at VAMWorld or Conesco. That puts it as either and undiscovered varity (vam) or a fake... as I said earlier a fake is more likely but new VAMs are discovered every year (several were added to the lists in 2019) I wouldn't get you hopes too high, but definitly worth having someone look at it to be sure. (adding a link to vamworld for you, they describe things much better then i can :D) http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/Home

Only worth junk value and definitely not worth grading.

Actually a little better date once you hit XF or so (this one is around VF20)...but this coin has some problems, graffiti above the date, etc., so most won't pay more than a few bucks over melt.
