I have a question. Ok, a lot of people seem to think they have to hedge their savings against the dollar's decline by buying gold and silver. I understand that part. But, here's where I lose their thought process. They plan on holding onto this gold until such a time arises when the dollar rebounds. But, first of all, the price of gold isn't based on the dollar, so if they buy 1 oz today at $1200 and the dollar rebounds, the price of 1oz of gold will drop to reflect it's stability, and that person may only get say $600 for that oz. So, if they're going to just hold onto gold, because I know of no grocery store or car dealership who take gold bullion, why wouldn't you just hold cash until such a time when it's value buys more? Whats the true advantage to gold, other than gold dealers and so-called brokers get rich off of the hype and scare tactics involved? Just a few thoughts.

Yeah, I don't get it, either. A large portion of those who are crazy about gold have this really bizarre "Buy high, sell low" mentality that makes absolutely no sense, and another large portion just seem to assume that gold will keep going up forever or that hyperinflation is on the way. I really don't get it.

    Welcome to the Forum!

I see this statement often, and although at first glance , I might agree with the concept, I don't see how one benefits from going to gold. For example, lets say that the price of gold is 1200 USD when you buy an ounce, and the dollar devalues so that in 6 months as example, the price of gold is 1800 USD. SO how do you claim the underlying "increase" in value? If you sell for 1800USD, you receive the devalued dollars and inflation may have kept up with it, so when you buy 6 qts of oil, it may have also increase by an equal %, so you are still even, and you have taken a chance that the price of gold might go down because of difficulties with the Gold funds. You have noticed that gold , rather than acting in opposing direction to the stock market, has been more like following it. Sell your gold for Euros, Pesos, Loonies?

Some gold as investment seems appropriate at a 10% or so level, but expecting it to protect against inflation or monetary devaluation is questionable to me. A couple of months ago, many on this forum were praying for a dip so they could buy more gold and silver. It has dipped, and I really don't see many posts that a member has bought more due to the dip, and I understand, they might be worried it will dip further, and maybe some are already under water because they jumped in after gold broke upward from 1050.

Well I was hoping to get some of those ASE's for the price mentioned. First I was asked to PM since we can't do business on here. I got no response to my PM so I emailed his store and was told that he was currently our of stock and that weather was coming in but he expected to get some in the next week or two. I emailed again yesterday to check on the status and did not get a reply. With Numisnetwork I get the coin I want and I get it auto shipped and the cusyomer service is fabulous. I guess it was just another promise to bash something that people don't understand. I would like to buy ASE's for 45 to 50 graded MS70 but since I can't do that I will get them from Numis network.

    Dave,

I do have to apologize. I had 5 coins ordered from a dealer for you and I was going to sell them to you at a buck above my cost. In the last 10 days we have had 3 major snows and have been left with 20+ inches of snow. The dealer was going to hand deliver the coins to me on his way to a show in St. Louis. He canceled his trip due to the weather and shipping the coins to me would have meant I was going to loose money. I have been trying to secure the coins for you through the door (with little luck) and have spent the better part of the last 2 days at the hospital with my VERY pregnant wife in the expectation of delivering our son. (he's not quite ready yet) So again I do apologize for dropping the ball on this one. I was going to return your EMail this afternoon with this information but I guess I'll just tell you here.

Congrats Matt on the next Lost Dutchman. I am interested in the coins you mention as they become available. Thanks for the response. I used to work in retail and the worst thing I ever got was chewed out for not following up. I always follow up even if just to say I have checked and been unable to get an update.

I think this points out the convenience of Numis network. The coin comes once a month to my front door and there are 5 or 6 to choose from and they are always ms70.

Best of luck to you and your wife!

    Thanks, Dave

Dave, I think someone asked which company graded the MS70 coins that you mention, and if you answered, I can't find it. SO may I ask which company grade the coins that you have actually received.

    Thanks
    Jim

Numis network offers coins graded by PCGS, NGC and the 2009 Ameican Silver Eagle I received was graded by ANACS.

Hold on here Dave,,, let me get this correct. The Dutchman is going to get you ms70's for, let's call it $60 per... and you opt to buy them at $90 (50% more) simply because the company can deliver them to you on a more regular time schedule... That sounds like a preference for convenience rather than smart investing to me.

I can give you a laundry list of companies that deliver very regularly to your front door at similar costed margins over "retail"....
    - there are those that deliver groceries to your door,,, no grocery shopping ever again, but you have to pay around 100% over the retail value... a bit under 7-11 or convenience store prices.
    - some investment companies will send a personnal rep to your house to discuss investment opportunites in real estate,, and even give you a free trip to Orlando just for listening to them. Similar mark up in investment.

.... if your in it for the "investment" then a bit of shopping and work and patience on your part is expected if you expect to be successful..... I've never heard a millionaire say, "boy oh boy, the secret to investing is convenience.."

I'd let the Dutchman take his good time, network, find the best deals, and save you 50% or more per coin....... I bet he can get you all you can afford and more... and over time become reliable as an atomic clock if you provide a reliable sales output for him........ I also bet he retires first (but that's another thread)....

I don't think Mike Mezack would endorse numis network if it were a pyramid scheme

hahahahaha!!! He has absolutely no credibility in the community and on the show circuit. Go to a major show and use him as a reference...you'll get laughed out of the room. He's a good salesman...but a terrible thing for the hobby. Not to mention the "Multi level marketing endeavor" that is numismetwork.

Well, I've read this post from cover to cover. Very interesting and in my opinion the MLM company in question is doing nothing more than running an elaborate pyramid scheme that targets uneducated novices in the collecting arena. HSN or Coinvault "online" 'cept there ain't no fat man singin'..........
