I am not a coin collector so I don't know much other than sometimes a coin with errors can have some value. I found this weird dime when I was emptying out my car center console. I didn't find anything like it with an online search and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it? Thanks!
Hi Mark. Welcome to CoinTalk Your dime sustained damage, likely stuck in machinery Maybe a washer or dryer Not an error coin. Larry
Ok. That makes sense. Thank you for the quick response! This coin collector community seems like a nice place. Maybe I will have to start a new hobby!
DEFDAM - Definitely Damaged How? Only the person who did it would know. It would of been used to stabilize a table leg. Placed underneath the leg and the weight damaged it. Welcome to CoinTalk
That is damage done by someone that worked hard to maintain the center design of the coin, but still just damage.
I have made a few like that with belt sander. It does give you an idea of how much higher the rims are on a coin than the central devices. I did it for educational purposes. A palm sander rounds the rim and tends to make a dimple in the center. Because of the vibration to a palm sander you can't ever keep even pressure.
