I hope this doesn't degrade into controversy, but who else is planning to go to NYINC? I am hoping to attend one day. Maybe even meet some other forum members.
I am planning to attend on the Friday or Saturday, assuming everything goes ok with my cataracts surgery scheduled for earlier that week, and that I can continue to dodge omicron!
I wonder how many overseas dealers will be in attendance. If they test positive have to quarantine it could get very expensive for them. Charles Davis, leading numismatic literature dealer has indicated that he will not attend. I would Email the dealers you want to visit with and ask them about their plans. At this point in time the New York city area looks to be a hot spot.
I plan to be there for the entire event and as usual I will be giving away a few of these To anyone who would like one. I believe it will be a good show. Besides Charles, Edward Waddell will not be attending but my understanding is that Martina Dieterle is. Hope to see some of you there.
I expect that the show will be during the peak of the post-holiday Covid surge. I'm not particularly concerned about getting sick myself, since all indications are that omicron is relatively mild if you're fully vaxxed, but I am concerned about picking it up and inadvertently spreading it to my 180+ young students. I can wait one more year.
Hi Terence, I didn't come all the way from Greece just to stay indoors and be scared of Covid-19 and its derivatives. I will see you on the floor and will be wearing the button you gave me last time too. Martina will also be there, I can confirm this. I don't see why people are afraid if they keep the rules and they have taken their booster shot. The New York police contacted me soon after my arrival and asked me to do a PCR test which I had already done. I did another one just to keep them happy and the system works well because the results are forwarded to them in 48 hours.
I had made reservations but cancelled after case rates in NYC skyrocketed. Being boosted and in good health, I'm not concerned with my own well being but coming back to an immunocompromised wife and a 91 year old father-in-law made me rethink the travel event. Very disappointed but I believe it was the right thing to do.
COVID aside, the reason I'm not going is the usual: time and money. The cost of getting there and staying there would eat up too big a portion of my budget. Maybe next year (but I seem to say that every year) .
I will be there, most likely next Friday or Saturday. Looking forward to it and hoping to see some of you there!
I cannot attend but for those of you that will, I look forward to your results and replies. Be safe not sorry, keep your distance, wear a mask, and carry a hand sanitizer! Good luck and success to you.
From locally sourced reports, I expect you will find NYC to be very quiet, with few people venturing out and about. Single data point, last Friday (NYE) every reservation except one canceled at the local Italian restaurant.
For those of you going please take some pictures and plan to post some good show reports for us poor souls who can't make it. John
Yeah, unless you are local it doesn’t really make sense to attend from a coin buying perspective. I justify it as an entertainment expense, which comes from a different bucket in my mind than the coin budget. Kind of like how I have a different stomach for dessert than I do for dinner.
I will be there Saturday! It's only a 20 minute cab ride from where I live. @DonnaML I hope you heal well enough to meet you!
I really want to go and I believe I could get a free educational table to advertise for Koinon, but it is such a bad time of the year for me to get away, and like TIF says, it eats up so much of my coin budget just to attend.
I guess I missed it this year - last year, or the year before? they sent me Kirk Davis's invite by mistake then I lost it, then forgot about it, as I did this year.
