Like lots of folks I follow several folks online who post about ancient coins. Recently I started following a few folks on Instagram. They post some neat eye-candy. Recently Pecunia posted a small set of RR Denarii - pecunianumismatics.com. I think the reverse of this P.CRESP is really detailed. I wonder what the rider saw to go bug eyed like this.
Is it my imagination, or does the rider have a mustache? So, a barbarian? Are you thinking of buying it? If so, I won't contemplate doing so myself.
I have a couple of them, but thIs one is.much nicer than the other - fairly detailed bug-eyed rider too, racing to get onto the flan! (Ex Andrew's collection) ATB, Aidan.
Very nice! I still haven’t gotten a denarius from the Roman Republic yet. I’m really excited to pick up my first one. Maybe a legionary denarius of Mark Antony I do have 2 Roman coins from the Republic though. From the Punic Wars. The Quadrigatus and Victoriatus. 1 Quadrigatus = 2 Victoriatus or 1.5 denarii. 1 Victoriatus = 3/4 of a denarius. I would share pics but I feel like I’ve posted them wayyy too many times already xD
P.S. I believe the rider is wearing a cavalry sports helmet or ceremonial helmet. It looks alot like this one from the 1st century.
