"Antiques Roadshow meets American Chopper"...that is certainly the funniest thing I've heard this week, and couldn't possibly be more accurate.
I dont know if it is still there, but there used to be a link on the website where you could make an appointment to bring in odd and unique items for the tv show. normal pawn shops get off the wall and weird items, but not at the rate that show makes it out to be. What I found disappointing is how he just dumps the coin (along with many other items) on the glass counter. There's no cloth or soft surface on the counter to prevent the item from being marred.. Then he just grabs the coin right with his nails to slide it off the counter, like you would a dime on the floor.. I wouldn't let him touch my coin like that
lol i saw that. what a joke. i almost made a thread to see what people here would think the value on that really is. the coins themselves are not that valueble at all but some old clump is going to worth in the hundred thousands? please. history does not always equate value.
Pawn stars for entertainment value only!! Cant say that there experts Are experts in anything....LOL especially when it comes to coins!! I would really like to take some of my Mpc in and let see how that would Play out!! HAHAHAHA!!
I like the show for just the entertainment part of it and for the goodies they show. The old man is pretty cool also.
I also thought that show was very interesting!! It reminds me of the people that stole the hard wood floors out of my great grandpa's house after he passed away.
It's a business. They need to make a profit. They won't make 10 grand in the store. And they're offering you cash NOW, instead of the hassle of an auction. Joe
The fake st.gaudens originated form the middle east in the 1950's and was common production until the late 80's. So they didnt melt down $20 gold pieces to make them. Rather they would get pure gold, which is readily available in the middl eeast and for a lot cheaper than in the US. And they would min the ocins by the tens of thousands per run per mill. So do the math there is porbably more fakes out there then authentic. Plus many of the fakes were spot on details wise. Most of the fakes we see today are chinese fakes. unfortunately what we accept to be auhtentic st.gaudens, some have originated from a press in a slum from the middle east. And yes theyre they were pretty damn accurate, I have bucket loads of them. Every time I go back there, or a relative comes here, they ahve to bring a couple hundred with them. or give me a couple cases to bring back. Thats how many they have backed up. lol If the gold was refined to 24k gold it would come out to be a little over 30 grams. so yes your correct.
I saw the episode and I personally thought that I saw rubs on the coin and was surprised when they called it a 64.... but hey those are the experts.
well said Dutch Just a up scale Pawn shop as always trying to get a deal at 1/2 or less like a normal pawn shop.but granddad is funny
