Hi Everyone!, This is a good one, a "BRASS", yes brass indian panny I found in a old collection last week, And no its not plated, not conterfit, and not an off shade color copper, Its brass!, Iam going to have it certified! have any of you ever heard or seen one? I do know the mint way back then did make coins for other countrys as we do today, this id a major error coin and proud to own it!Iam still learning how to crop photos for close ups, but heres one photo I have for now.
Exactly how do you know that it's brass?Any test for brass would have left the coin damaged. What year is it, what does the obverse look like, and are you just pulling my leg here?
I asked him the same question on another forum where he announced his discovery. If I remember it is a 1906 and to me it looks like a cleaned coin. But you are wrong ajm, it IS posssible to do non-destructive testing to determine if it is brass. It just takes access to about three quarters of a million dollars worth of specialized equipment.
It is possible to turn a cent almost any color, given the right environmental conditions. The simplest test (unfortunately invasive) is to scrape the edge against a fine sharpening stone and to compare the color of the freshly exposed metal to that of a normal cent treated in the same way. A specific gravity test would also serve to discriminate between a bronze cent and a brass cent with a high percentage of zinc in the mixture. Color alone is an unreliable diagnostic.
As Mikediamond says, a specific gravity test can tell a high zinc brass from a low tin french bronze like that used on Lincoln cents. But it can't tell a low zinc brass alloy from french bronze, or a high zinc brass from a high tin bronze (poor alloy mix). And like he said (and I said in the other forum) color is NOT a valid diagnostic.
Sorry, sorry.... I'll rephrase my statement: Any sort of REALISTIC AND ACCESSIBLE testing would destroy the coin and make it worthless.
Iam telling you fellas this is the real-deal here!! Its brass! not bronze, brass hass a totaly differant color than bronze. It also has the patina that comes with brass, some of you may say otherwise but thats your opinion, its a wounderfull find!, and its worth alot! Iam personaly going to take it to a coin show comeing in Las Vegas soon to get it slabed. These boys can tell. I didnt post the front becouse I mistakenly ereased the file photo, Iam trying to do close-ups but with little success
Heres the photo of the front, I must have erased the other trying to do close-ups with little sucsess. This coin is the real-deal, Bronze has a differant color tone than brass, This is brass even with the patina bras gives off with age, Iam going to have this graded and these guys can look at it, This is a rare find indeed! You all will see in time that I told you so.....The mint back then made some sort of mistake with the material they ran, most probebly brass plancidfor some forein coinage.
Heres the front, This coin is the real-deal! BRASS!, Not bronze it would have a differant color. Iam haveing this graded, in time you allwill see, I told you so........This is an amazeing find! RARE!.
Iam haveing a hard time postin the front of this brass Indian, It says " partial uploade"??I will keep trying to show the front. This coin is the real-deal, You all will see in time when this coin is authenticated and shown on the front of coin world some day, It is BRASS! i tell you!, Not bronze!, Not copper!, BRASS!!The mint workers no dought made a mistake useing plancids for maybe forein coinage that they were makeing. This sucker is rare!, You'l see soon.
Hi fellas, Iam haveing a hard time postin a photo of the front!, It says "partial upload"??This penny is the real-deal! Brass!, Not bronze, not copper ect... BRASS!, You all will see soon someday when this coin is in the front of coin world as a rare find!!
Hi fellas, Iam haveing a hard time postin the front of this coin, it says "patial upload"?, This coin is brass, when I get this graded you will see that it is indeed a rare coin!, The mint made a mistake plain & simple, they must have used a brass tryp plancid for forien coinage.
You don't need to post the same thing more than once just written another way... #1...if you are right then you have a rare coin....but the chance that you have a brass cent is 1 in 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 or more....I don't ever recall hearing of a planchet that would be brass in the US mint or anything that would do this....I'm sorry to tell you this but I think when you go to get it graded they will tell you that its a fake or plated and to take it away.... I hope that this forum will save you some money and some hurt....it isn't cheap to get it graded at a show. Speedy

Hi All, Having worked with many photo programs, i see telltale signs that the color in the original photo was "adjusted" . you can see the light blue rings indicating that the red was removed and the green tints were increased. I played with the same pic and put color back in. What do you think of the result? Have Fun, Bill
