...Sorry, John, was I supposed to pick one? They're all incredible. The Aksumite is earlier than most of the Christian ones you see, by enough of a margin to add to the coolness. The French and Anglo-Gallic are all stunning ...but so are the rest of them. ...What would we do without you?

That's a dazzling lineup of gold for 2021!

I especially like the Edward VI 1/2 gold ryal.

Thanks :) for nice comments. I am probably one of the only "Ancient" cointalkers that has no rhyme or reason behind forming a collection. I think I just collect for the sheer pleasure/ I love history so that also goes hand in hand. I still have never been able to find out the mint locales for Axumite coinage:(
Wish You and Your Loved Ones a Happy New Year! and lots of new coin additions....

Thanks, and Back at you, on all counts.
It's funny. On a smaller scale, I collect much the same way as you do; what I know of the market, from one minute to the next, kind of sets the agenda. It's a little like classic, 20th-century vocal jazz, especially by way of the songs that they refer to as 'standards.' You start with what's there, and then you riff on it.
..I want to think that the overwhelming majority of Axumite coins were minted in the eponymous, capital city. ...Except that, from the Sasanian and Islamic conquests of most of the Aksumite Red Sea coast, in the 7th century (following the massive plague in the previous one), the entire administrative infrastucture was forced to migrate further inland. It was a national trauma, not least regarding what had to be a massive loss of previously extant written documentation. On this scale, you could compare it to the First World War, along with modern European conflicts to either side. There was a Lot of (euphemism alert: ) "collateral damage."

    All wonderful coins, @panzerman.

I really like your medieval selections. They all have cool designs. Your Edward IV and Axumite Chrysos are my favorites. :)

    Thanks Spaniard:)
Wish You and Family a Beautifull 2022!
The Leo I Solidus was weird/ I went thru my master coin list and found that I still did NOT have a Solidus (have Tremissis/ Semissis) So, I googled searched a solidus on coinarchives/ upcoming auctions. Lots came up/ since its common/ then a site came up from "Hard Assets" they had aNGC CH-MS ex on offer for $1650. I had never heard of them/ so took a chance and ordered it. Well, it looks 100 percent better in hand:D and a good deal for that $$$. I ended up getting a second coin from them (Britannia AV Stater/ Durotriges) MS 5/5 5/5* for same dollar figure. Happy with both. Over past 12 months/ I bought 15 coins from them/ MA-shops....all great deals. Before/ all my coins where via auctions. However, now with high comm. fees/ some better deals with dealers.:)

No 1 is a very nice coin. I have no knowledge to comment on the others but I am sure they are all special. I still haven't seen any of the coins I lost appearing in CT or elsewhere. I recognize a few of the coins posted but I didn't bid on any of them. Seems either the online community is just a small subset of the market or there are many lurkers who don't like to post their wins.

My best wishes for a happy and healthy 2022!

Thanks you pprp! I Wish You and Your Family a Wonderfull New Year:) I think CT community is very tiny in relation to the worldwide collector base. I would guess, a lot of the creme is going to the Chinese/ Japanese/ Russian/ Gulf States "elite". A friend (member of our local coin club) attended Triton (Adams Collection) auction. He heard that there was a Saudi Prince there who came to win at any cost/ the Mughal "Zodiac" AV Mohurs/ among other rarities/ one can easily do that with virtually unlimited $$$$/ unlike us "ordinary" collectors.:(
