some of you know I am slowly putting together a "great hoard/collection" collection. Now I have the opertunity to pick up a fairly nice small date FE for just under list... with the Maumee Valley Collection label/pedigree... To answer the question before it's asked.. This is one of the Thomas Noe investment scam coins ordered sold by the court... My question is... would this count as a hoard?? obviously it has some "fame/infamy" but is it enough to call it an actual great hoard/collection? What are your thoughts? I doubt the label will ever carry a premium but it is an interesting story to go with the coin lol...
Any documentation on the coin being from the scam? Might add some premium to it, depending on type of documentation. Pictures?
Only the collection name on the pcgs label. I had to do a fair amount of research to figure out it was the thomas noe collection lol
Are you collecting coins from ANY Hoard or just a particular coin type only ? For gold hoards, specifically Saints, you have the 1908 No Motto Wells Fargo Hoard and the 1983 MTB El Salvador Hoard (also non-Saint coins but I'm not sure they are labeled as such). For Morgans, you have the GSA and Redfield Hoards.
There are some coin pedigrees that can add value, especially if the coin is among the finest known for a variety. I don't think that the Thomas Noe label is worth anything. It was a scandal that was soon forgotten, and the coins were probably mostly run of the mill.
