Something abrasive post minting. Damage, not an error

 

Damaged its been ground down possibly to make a magicians coin,still a cent technically.

 

In Boston they say it another way, "Missing its Cappa!". "Throw it in the Crapper"!

 

Altered and damaged Cent. Post mint alteration.
Not an error of any kind.

 

That coin has been damaged some time after it left the mint. Definitely not an error.

 

I know an elderly woman who's been an avid golfer all her life. She has a pre-zinc penny in her golf bag that she uses as a golf ball marker. Her golf ball marker penny is ground down on one side only (obverse), exactly how the OP's penny is, with the high point at the very center. Perhaps this is why the OP's penny is also ground down. Someone used it as a golf ball marker.

 

Asked and answered. Someone was bored and decided to put a lousy Zincoln out of its misery.
