This is a type that requires no introduction and little commentary. I think it is safe to say this is one of the most popular of all ancient coin types. Roman Republic, Julius Caesar, April-August 49 BC, issued by Caesar’s traveling military mint. SR-1399 RSC 49 Please show your Caesar elephants.
Nice @Aethelred ! RR Caesar AR Denarius 49 BCE Traveling Mint Elephant-Pontificates Sear 1399 Craw 443-1
Wonderful coins shown here. The OP coin looks like bronze. I guess that is is just the photograph Here is my example: Obv.: CAESAR Rev.: -- Mint: Military mint traveling with Caesar Date: BC 54-51 Weight: 4.07g Crawford 443/1; HCRI 9; Sydenham 1006; RSC 49 Extremely fine condition with attractive toning. Obverse slightly off centre. I noticed the dating of BC 49 in previous posts. I have BC 54-51. How are these dated?
