What are you talking about @Kentucky?
Why would I want to pull up my pants?!
Can the pin be taken down please?

Do you expect it to be done while you wait?
The "pull up your pants" is kind of an American expression meaning to grow up and quit whining.

As the OP of the post that ultimately went off the rails (not my fault), I will require 20% of all revenues generated.

Thank you for this! I had never seen (or had reason to want) the "ignore this thread" feature...what a joy to have that pinned nonsense removed from sight. I didn't like it because it sounded like it was coming from someone who thinks he's talking down to children - and I really don't like people like that.

CoinCorgi Tell your dog I said hi!

I could NEVER enter the ancient forum with such an offensive pinned post looming at the top. Fetch the fainting couch, oh dear.

    Get over yourselves edited

You might want to take a look at the top 2 sticky threads in this section of the forum, and how long they've been there -

    upload_2021-12-29_9-18-31.png

And ya know what, not 1 member, not a single one, in all that time, has ever said a word about them being there. I suppose that's because they all know those sticky posts are there for a reason - just like the one you're talking about is.

You mean like this one ?

    alt CT avatar.jpg

But don't worry, what ya said doesn't bother me in the least, not everybody does like them. And my avatar, it being what it is, that's not a coincidence.

And the vast majority of the time that's exactly what I do. But when the situation calls for it like it did in this case, because there are more members than I care to count breaking the rules all in the same thread, and make that 2 threads because there were 2 within 2 days, not just 1, then I post a sticky thread to make sure everybody gets the message. And I leave it there to remind them !

The last time we went through this, when I had to post a sticky thread of reprimand in the Ancients section was only 6 months ago, I can post links to the threads if you'd like. But the point is, it seems some have short memories - which of course is why sticky threads ARE sticky threads.

So this one, it's gonna be here a while. I suggest you simply deal with it.

Oh that's easy to resolve, don't act like children, and I won't have to act that way !

Do you know what being a moderator is ? A moderator is a glorified babysitter. And I gotta tell ya, babysitting actual children, well it's a whole lot easier than babysitting adults who act like children ! The kids know the rules apply to them. But for some reason adults seem to they can ignore the rules as it suits them.

Well, I'm sorry to tell ya - you can't.

sort of what I feel like when I read about the US government approving cultural property agreements that include ancient coins.

Rules... arbitrarily enforced by anonymous moderators blessed with papal levels of infallibility, yet who cannot or will not clarify those rules without resorting to some version of "I know it when I see it."

Rules... which piously ban Roman spintriae depicting erotic acts between (presumably) consenting adults, yet have no problem at all with coins of the Third Reich...

The warnings, rant's, blind enforcement of overly generalized rules, and pinned posts from moderators are annoying to be sure. But, giving the mods a hard time about these things is unfair. The purpose of the forum is to serve as a platform for discussions centered on coins. Without the actions of the mods, the platform, in one way or another, would devolve into chaotic dysfunctionality.

In a perfect world, every forum member would be intelligent, rational, cultured, responsible, and deep-thinking enough to enjoy exploring the depths of any topic of conversation without getting their undies in a bunch. But alas, this is simply not the case :(.

I really was done with this since finding the "ignore this thread" feature, but you asked, so...

...yes I do know - I was the only moderator on a very active forum which by its nature was far more emotionally-driven than a numismatic forum, making it a very busy job. I simply deleted any rule-breaking thread (or individual post)...never felt any need for completely unnecessary comment from me, or "scolding" of adults.
